First Division side University of Pretoria have agreed to be active partners of the Clarence Mlokoti Annual Commemorative Tournament, currently underway in the Eastern Cape.
A brainchild of Tsomo-born media relations officer at Kaizer Chiefs, Luthando 'Trompies' Zibeko, the tournament started on the weekend of September 16-17, and it is organised to honour Mlokoti posthumously for his contribution to football.
Zibeko tells KickOff.com why the University of Pretoria have come on board.
"I am excited to announce that Tuks [University of Pretoria] have agreed to partner with the tournament. The partnership will see players who excel during the tournament getting an opportunity to attend trials at Tuks.
"Coaches who excel during the tournament will also come through to spend time with highly qualified coaches at Tuks," Zibeko says.
He adds: "I am delighted with the partnership with Tuks because of their commitment in the development of football in the country. The fact that they have teams in most levels demonstrates their commitment.
"Tuks have also nurtured the likes of Andile Jali, who also comes from the Eastern Cape. This partnership will go a long way in inspiring the youngsters back home in Tsomo.
"It is my dream to see a player, a product of the tournament playing in the NFD or even the Premier League by 2014 and by this partnership that dream is not something way off.
"We are still going to sit with Tuks to finalise details around this partnership … I would like to thank the leadership for showing interest in this project," says an elated Zibeko.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Final will see Mzomhle Blues taking on Two Four Joy at Tsomo Stadium this Saturday, October 8.
The programme will be over by 3pm to allow everyone to watch the Bafana Bafana match against Sierra Leone.
Mlokoti, who devoted 30 years of his life to football, was tragically killed by car hijackers in Pimville, Soweto, in December 1999.
