University of Pretoria whipped unbeaten National First Division top dogs Blackburn Rovers 3-0 in Pretoria to leapfrog the Eastern Cape club, while Thanda Royal Zulu, who defeated Chippa United 2-1 at home, are two points adrift.
There were also second consecutive wins for African Warriors and FC Cape Town as they claimed all three points over United FC and Witbank Spurs, respectively, and Mpumalanga Black Aces finally broke their duck with a 2-1 victory against Bay United.
AmaTuks' goals came from Thokozani Sekotlong, Seydouba Soumah and Philani Khwela with Omar Hendricks and Edwin Sitayitayi making sure Thanda stay in the hunt.
Before the game, Chippa coach Mlungisi 'Professor' Ngubane expressed excitement about the possibility of showing Neil Tovey who was best but the former Bafana Bafana captain had the last laugh.
At Charles Mopeli, Jimmy Zakazaka was again on target for Warriors as they beat lowly United 1-0, and a neat brace by FC Cape Town's striker Josef Lekata ensued his side kept Kenneth 'Conti' Kubheka's team in the drop zone.
A great second-half strike by Dumisani Gamede which left Cape 'keeper Noel Yobou clutching thin air, brought the scores level but moments later Lekata was quick to take the initiative sending the ball into the back of the net as Spurs' goalkeeper Richard de Villiers and defender Paris Zitha both lay sprawled on the ground.
Thanks to fine finishes from Ace Bhengu and Zambian striker Lineker Mwiikisa at the Puma Rugby Stadium, Black Aces condemned Bay to another loss, leaving David Bright's side with just five points from a possible eighteen.
Dynamos bounced back from their mid-week defeat to easily overpower Atlie FC 3-0 in Sinaba as Bokang Thlone, Pontsho Ntsoane and Joseph Mahlangu helped the ex-PSL club up to a respectable seventh position.
The only match that ended in a stalemate was the clash between Sivutsa Stars and Carara Kicks with both sides netting one goal apiece that leaves them mid-table.
On Wednesday, FC AK kicks off their belated season with a home match against Bay United, while United entertain Sivutsa Stars in Kimberley.
