Kaizer Chiefs have five players in Zimbabwe squad

Chiefs set ‘foreign club’ record

Posted: 2011-09-20 10:07

Kaizer Chiefs have become the first foreign club to provide five players to the Warriors after the full contingent of their Zimbabwean stars were called up for the crucial 2012 AFCON Group A encounter away in Cape Verde on October 8.

Warriors coach Norman Mapeza has recalled the on-form duo of left-back Zhaimu Jambo and tough defender Thomas Sweswe.

Jambo was not selected for the last game against Liberia while Sweswe was suspended. Also in the squad is the ever-reliable midfield strongman Tinashe Nengomasha, along with the recent Chiefs signings Willard ‘Bute’ Katsande and Lincoln Zvasiya.

All Chiefs’ foreign players this season are Zimbabwean.

Never before has a single foreign club provided as many five players to the Warriors. Though Bush Bucks also had five Zimbabweans in 2004 in William Mugeyi, Dumisani Mpofu, Eddie Mashiri, Tauya Murehwa and Agent Sawu, they were never all called to the national team at the same time.

Chiefs could ironically also provide another five players to the Bafana Bafana squad to play Sierra Leone, with Itumeleng Khune, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Bernard Parker and Lehlohonolo Majoro all likely to be called up.

Another Chiefs connection called up is German Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim striker Knowledge Musona, who also missed the Liberia game due to injury.

While Mamelodi Sundowns also have five Zimbabweans on their books in Nyasha Mushekwi, Method Mwanjali, Esrom Nyandoro, Simba Sithole and Lionel Mutizwa, only two have been called up.

The two are Mushekwi and Mwanjali – Sithole being dropped, with Nyandoro still being ignored and Mutizwa is injured.

Mushekwi and Musona, the top two strikers in South Africa last season, are expected to lead the Zimbabwean attack.

The Warriors need to beat Cape Verde and hope that Mali does not win in Liberia in order for them to qualify.

A total of 11 out of the 18 players called up for the Warriors ply their trade in the PSL.

The squad is:
Goalkeepers: Tapuwa Kapini (AmaZulu), Washington Arubi (Dynamos, Zimbabwe)
Defenders: Method Mwanjali (Mamelodi Sundowns), Thomas Sweswe, Zhaimu Jambo (both Kiazer Chiefs), Gilbert Mapemba (Moroka Swallows), Tapiwa Khumbuyani (CAPS United, Zimbabwe), Vusa Nyoni (Germinal Beerschot, Belgium), Daniel Veremu (FC Platinum, Zimbabwe)
Midfielders: Tafadzwa Rusike, Khama Billiat (both Ajax Cape Town), Ovidy Karuru US Boulogne, France), Lincoln Zvasiya, Willard Katsande, Tinashe Nengomasha (all Kaizer Chiefs)
Strikers: Nyasha Mushekwi (Mamelodi Sundowns), Knowledge Musona (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim), Edward Sadomba (Al Hilal, Sudan)

We sold 2 national material players overseas Musona and Nahayo
Punch Masenamela was knocking to Pisto's door ...not sure now

Baloyi will be in 2014 squad

Mara that Katsande cant even pass the ball, his first touch is also a problem...I wonder who recomended him...

Gucci Man: 2011-09-20 10:31

Now you will understand why we don't sign avarage players like Tafera Fikru,Msocoya,Otorogu,Mwape and make noise in KO calling them "Hot strikers" and instead of calling them "Hot-dogs"

Gucci Man: 2011-09-20 10:33

@ Sooper
I haven't seen much of Katsande but he's got a potential, let's give him a chance. I won't say much about him becuase I'm still keep a close eye on him ...however I trust him

It puzzles me what goes in in a Chimp's mind. First it was their so called number one supporter who said it's Chimps first then his wife now the younger Chimps are also bragging about grooming playes for Zimbabwe. This foreign policy is killing local talent thus depriving Bafana Bafana of quality players. Other clubs like Pirates are breaking records with an all South African lineup and the Chimps are doing the opposite..yerrrr

Mgugudi: The Treble Addict: 2011-09-20 10:56

Pirates makes history like winning a treble or being the only institution to groom Motoung & Jomo or the only team to win a champions league in southern hemisphere etc, while KC on the other hand achieves records like being the foregn based players team in SA or winning most plastic cups like Iwisa spectacular, Mogqaka or getting more refs decisions in their favour or losong to vodacom teams year in year out, etc...

Champ Mriyo (Trebble kings of SA): 2011-09-20 10:56

Bashin: 2011-09-20 10:56

Thats very good to hear but on what bases is Katsnde and Zvayisa called on?? Katsande still needs to prove his worth and Zvayisa is yet to kick a ball in an official match.. if players get called based on form and capabilities the 2 strike force of khosi should be dropped in Majoro and Parker as they not providing what is needed in both club and international level and please lets not hear about the beutiful goal by parker besides that I certainly saw no magic from the man and that goes for the other games, Majoro there is alot on the mans shoulders and he is not coping with that a call up won't do him any good he needs to work even harder for it and with time I think he can then come back...

My opinion constructive criticism is more that welcome..

“Have you ever heard of the name called "scarce skills"- unfortunately football falls under this name.”

Dooba, what has KC done to unearth talent in SA. “scarce skills” term is subjective & loosly used by followers not leaders in corporate SA, you are the former.

“Have you ever heard of something called global business- Chiefs is a global enterprise that promotes SA's National Interst of keeping SADC and Africa abreast and promoting their economic conditions i.e. by employing foreign based players.”

Dooba, you got lost in the queens language or in translation. Interests are not national if they include SADC or Africa, they are regional or continental or global. Furthermore, if KC was indeed a global business, they would not glorify winning 1 plastic cup per season but they would be participating in continental (& subsequently global) competitions without a fuss.

“Have you ever heard of something called "social cohesion", one of SA's national interest- Chiefs promotes this by promoting social relations with SADC and Africa”

Has KC done to do the same for Davytone Township for example? KC has been ill-speaking & not giving a fair chance to the players of this township, I wonder where the social cohesion thingy you are talking about is.

“Do you know what deplomacy mean? It means solving a problem without compromising the conditions that may worsen it- Xenophobia is no deplomatic answer”

Leave that to the presidency, foreign affairs & other related departments, it is not the competency of KC.

“SA is not a one-cell organism, look at all side of the coin before lashing at foreigner who contribute to SA's economy and football (assuming football is not only the national team)...”

I am no biology fundi but I know that the most successful & resilient organism that has survived for billions of years in the universe are one-cell organisms, you must therefore never under-estimate them to put a vague point across. The same (looking at both sides of the coins) should be done where cheap labour & less talent is imported to this country to the detriment of Sans.

That's a tight number there bro.

Until Rats knows how to celebrate their success without trying to make everybody aware i think then they'll find peace.

Chiefs will always prosper despite the negative attitude towards them by failures.

Rising.....................

King authi yam: NPSL and NSL and Bantu soccer history, check wich team has won most championships and trophies? PSL which team has won most trophies, league included? see whether Chiefs is that team of one of those teams?

Which teams can fill a stadium upto capacity? see if Chiefs is one of those?
Which team has the most registered supporters in SA? Check if Chiefs is one of those. I'm not saying Pirates is a small team. If you take so called top three teams and research you will see which is the top!

@ Psb,

Again, a khosikazi misqouting a champ.

I never said it is the duty of government to deal with xenophobia. I talk about core business of KC which is football. You just mixed the 2 parallel arguements which Dooba shouldn't have in the 1st place, typical meagre-minded kc fan.

You go further to talk about eleven players on the field something I never mentioned. Foolishly, you shown your knowledge nakedness by stating that 8 players in a team are SAns. Have you heard of naturalization of foreign citizens which happens once a foreign individual has been in SA for more than 5 year for football players & 10 year ordinary folks? "1400" Nengomashe is 1 such an example.....

“Have you ever heard of the name called "scarce skills"- unfortunately football falls under this name.”

@ Dooba are you sure "scarce skills" not "scarce brains" there is abudance of football skills in SA go ask Mjomana where he found YEYE he did not have to go all the way to Zim he was already hiding somewhere here in SA

Fhatu : 2011-09-20 14:40

Who said Chiefs is the successful team? Media. Please conduct ur own research. Chiefs have achieved more than Pirates. Since the league turned professional in the 70's Chiefs & Sundowns have 8 league titles each. Sundowns only started their campaign in 1985.

Nzonzo: 2011-09-20 18:24

then kaizer has to take his name out and nae the team ZIMBABWE ZEBRAS

Itunes22: 2011-09-20 23:23

I so wish you SA supporters knew what we Zimbos think about the qaulity of football in your country.Sponsorship wise yes the league rocks, but to really adore the quality of soccer played by your teams would be an exageration. Our players are definately desperate to make an honest living, they have talent, but rest assured that it certainly does not belong there. If you can think for a moment that the last time Zimbabwe won against SA was when no Zimbo was playing in your league!Well!except for Boy Ndlovu in the 80's,who eventually was banned by the Zim FA for playing in SA.This crop of players have more value & a lot to offer in football than be humuliated & called all sorts of names by thir fellow black brothers.Soccer is meant to built bridges in whatever form of life, its been defined as a beautifull game & shallow minds on this forum seem to find joy in burning those bridges.Grow up fools,Zimbabweans & South Africans are all over the world!South Africans as well as Zimbabweans in Europe & elsewhere are paying taxes & in some cases are a taxpayers burden too.Africans have trecked to France,Portugal & all over the world but they are treated with respect & in some cases embraced to the core of the heart.France has seen its fair share of migrant flow from its former colonies so did Portugal! But non are called names or burnt alive in the streets of their capitals.Xenophobia is a weakness on the part of a failed human being who's at pains to come to terms with the fact that they are a failure. Why not enjoy the beautifull game find comfort from the fact that its a global game with one common language which is "SKILL".ICHO,ZIMBO TO MARROW!!!
