SSU go 2nd as Leopards' woes continue

Posted: 14 September 2011 Time: 21:37

Black Leopards poor run continued as they were thumped 3-0 by SuperSport United in their mid-week fixture.

Atusaye Nyondo got a brace for SuperSport, keeping up his impressive start with the club, before Morgan Gould added a third.

Khethokwakhe Masuku was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 72nd minute. As one of Lidoda Duvha’s more effective creative players, he will certainly be missed when serving his suspension.

Nyondo looked dangerous right from the start, and had the chance to open the scoring as early as the second minute when he got on the end of a cross but was unable to direct his header on target.

He had another great chance on 14 minutes but Leopards goalkeeper Posnett Omony made a breathtaking save with his feet to keep the visitors on level terms.

But with Matsatsantsa creating chances seemingly at will, it was only a matter of time before they took the lead – though Leopards did manage some decent attacks of their own.

SuperSport finally went in front just before half-time break. Bryce Moon floated in a cross from the right and Nyondo turned it home with his left foot.

Just four minutes after the restart Nyondo was in the thick of things once again, scoring from 10 metres out to put the Tshwane team two goals to the good.

At 2-0 down, Leopards looked unlikely to get anything out of the game, and the result was effectively confirmed just past the hour mark when Morgan Gould took advantage of a fumble by Omony to score from close range.

Things got worse for Leopards with just under 20 minutes to play when left winger Masuku was dismissed.

With a numerical advantage, SuperSport created several further chances, but the score remained 3-0.

Gavin Hunt’s team have moved up to second on the table, trailing leaders and cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns only on goal difference.

Leopards are placed 13th with just three points.
