As Orlando Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 Final, Tumoetsile Mogamisi won the MTN8 Last Fan Standing competition, pocketing R1-million and an overseas tour to see eight top football derbies.
Mogamisi, an accountant by trade, which should make is easy to count his winnings, was crowned the Last Fan Standing after outsmarting seven counterparts in a football trivia quiz.
"I'm so excited, really I have no words to express my joy," an emotional Mogamisi says. "I can't wait to tour the countries and watch other football derbies!"
The Last Fan Standing competition was launched in 2009, when Thulani Ngcobo won the ultimate prize to watch all 38 2010 World Cup matches and set a new Guinness World Record in the process.
The 2010 Last Fan Standing winner, Malose Kutumela, won an eight-day all expenses paid trip to watch Manchester United in Europe. Kutumela also watched the Red Devils train and had the opportunity to mingle with the players one-on-one.
"MTN8 is about the fans, the passion and love for the beautiful game," MTN SA senior manager: sponsorship and event Desiree Pooe says. "MTN congratulates Mogamisi on becoming this season's Last Fan Standing and looks forward to hosting him on an unforgettable international tour."
"In line with the theme of MTN8 Wafa Wafa, it is all about winner-takes-all," Pooe says. "However, the seven finalists who did not become the next Last Fan Standing each received R80,000 as part of being one of the finalists."
