Former Orlando Pirates star Ernest 'Botsotso' Makhanya, 49, died this afternoon at the Selby Park Hospital in Johannesburg.
This was confirmed to KickOff.com by his niece Gugu Makhanya.
He had been ill for the past two months and was admitted to hospital on Monday.
Botsotso joined Pirates in 1985 from amateur side Dlhamini Super Spurs and made his professional debut in the National Soccer League the same year.
He played alongside Ace Khuse, Zero Mogale, Phil Setshedi, Bazooka Seshweni, Yster Khomane, Mandla Sithole, Vincent Makroti, Ronny Zondi, Styles Ledwaba and others.
The midfielder played for ten years (1985-1995) at Pirates and was a crowd favourite.
Kick Off extends heartfelt condolences to Makhanya's family, relatives and friends.

On second thoughts,,,, this nickname should be ritired....Vilakazi will be 'Tso-tsi o hlathang', and that old rookie at Chiefs must be Gerald 'NTsu-Snuff' Sibeko. nx.
