Crocked Malawi national team skipper Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda is keeping his fingers crossed that Santos will release him for the Flames 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tunisia next weekend.
Mponda has just recovered from his knee ligament injury but Malawi coach Kinnah Phiri named the captain in his squad.
According to reports from Malawi, Santos have asked Football Association of Malawi (FAM) not to include the Mponda in their plans for the Tunisia game.
The Cape side says Mponda has recovered and is training well, but they doubt if it will be wise for him to start in such a serious match.
However, Mponda, who suffered a knee injury in February and was initially expected to be out for eight months, says he is physically fit and ready for the game.
“I am okay and ready for the game, but l am waiting for my club to finalise discussions with FAM.”
Other SA-based players expected to jet in on Monday are AmaZulu’s Moses Chavula, Platinum Stars’ Robert Ng’ambi and Black Leopards defender Harry Nyirenda.
