Dikwena beat Celtic

The 10-men of Platinum Stars held on for an excellent 2-1 victory over high-flying Bloemfontein Celtic in their Premiership clash at the Moruleng Stadium on Wednesday night.

Dikwena looked to be cruising when Robert Ng’ambi and Solomon Mathe put them 2-0 up in the first half, but after Jackson Mabokgwane conceded a penalty with 15 minutes to go and was given his marching orders to boot, Celtic were back in the game as Lennox Bacela converted the spot-kick.

Stars led on eight minutes as Malawian international midfielder Ng’ambi netted his first for the club since a close-season move from Black Leopards. Lebo Ramolesa floated in a free-kick after a foul by Moses Spandeel and Mathe rose at the back post to head the ball across goal, with Ng’ambi on hand to turn the ball home.

The excellent Ramolesa was again the provider for the second as his ball found Mathe, who made no mistake against his former side with a fine finish.

The visitors received a lifeline when Mabokgwane was adjudged to have fouled Lethola Mofokeng with 15 minutes remaining and having already received a yellow card earlier in the game, he was sent for an early shower.

Ramolesa was sacrificed as reserve goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane was brought into the game, but he could do nothing to stop Bacela converting his penalty.

The striker almost secured a point for his side too as he had a late header come back off the crossbar.
