SuperSport United come from a goal down to beat AmaZulu

Posted: 24 August 2011 Time: 21:31

All three SuperSport United substitutes played a crucial role in the visitors’ second win of the season as they beat AmaZulu 2-1 in a Premiership match on Wednesday night.

Kermit Erasmus, who came on in the 30th minute for an injured Anthony Laffor, won a penalty which substitute Jabu Maluleke converted, and then Gavin Hunt’s final replacement Mame Niang netted the winner with four minutes to go.

AmaZulu’s latest signing Dumisani Zwane scored the first goal in the 50th minute but it was not enough to stop the three-time league winners.

SuperSport’s Bryce Moon tested Tapuwa Kapini but the goalie made an easy save.

Matsatsantsa dominated in midfield but could not supply the likes of Moon and Laffor with quality service as the first stanza wound down tirelessly.

SuperSport’s 20-year old goalie Ronwen Williams had a quiet half and was not tested. The closest AmaZulu came to scoring was with a Sibusiso Hadebe header.

Laffor received special attention from the Usuthu defenders and made way for Kermit Erasmus on the half-hour mark apparently with an injury.

Five minutes after the break Usuthu number 10 Zwane used his pace to beat the SuperSport defence before slotting the ball past Williams.

The animated Hunt urged his charges to get forward and it was his changes that changed the game.

The first substitute Erasmus was hacked down from behind by an AmaZulu defender and the referee did not hesitate to point to the spot.

Maluleke, who had just come on, made no mistake from the penalty spot and the revitalised visitors went looking for the kill.

Niang struck the killer blow from close range albeit with a deflection that gave Tapuwa Kapini little chance to make a save.

United now have seven points from three games while Usuthu just have one and find themselves in 13th place, ten spots below the victors.
