Ferreira surfaces at Batau

Journeyman coach Johnny Ferreira has surfaced at Vodacom League side Batau as the former First Division club seeks to make a quick return back to the country’s second tier.

Ferreira, initially brought in to coach in the First Division when a deal to take over United FC was still on, will now be joint coach at the club with Mozambican Victor Mufumo after Batau lost their takeover bid in a court battle.

Ferreira and Mufumo are mandated to take the club back to the First Division right away, which is why they have retained the services of veteran defender Cyril Nzama.

Nzama has been with Batau since last year after joining from Bay United. Also still at the club is former AmaZulu midfielder Xolani ‘Touch’ Mabaso and Senzo Khalishwayo.

“It is a different challenge, but I am ready to take it on and help the team back to the First Division,” says Ferreira.

Ferreira has coached several teams in the First Division in the past, including a brief spell with Black Leopards last season.
