Ajax Cape Town duo Willard Katsande and Khama Billiat starred as Zimbabwe stormed to a 2-0 victory over Zambia in Harare yesterday, with Bobby Motaung watching from the stands.
The Kaizer Chiefs football manager watched the match with club assistant coach Ace Khuse.
Katsande struck his first international goal at the stroke of half-time, beating Kennedy Mweene with a low shot, and was named Man of the Match after a dominant midfield display.
Enjoying more of the ball before a strong crowd at Rufaro Stadium, the Warriors sealed the victory when Billiat snuck in a typical finish from close range to finish off an Urban Warriors show.
The Warriors were using the friendly match against Chipolopolo – who also brought in many of their South Africa-based stars – to prepare for the September 4 Africa Cup of Nations group showdown against Liberia at home.
Zambia play Comoros next in Group C.
Motaung and Khuse are in Zimbabwe sniffing around for a central defender or defensive midfielder, as Chiefs have three foreign spots open.
Zimbabwe defensive midfielder Justice Majabvi and striker Lincoln Zvasiya have spent the past week training at Naturena, but only Zvasiya played against Zambia, coming on with six minutes remaining to replace Katsande.
Majabvi was not selected for the match, with FC Platinum centre-back Daniel Veremu partnering Method Mwanjali at the back, while CAPS United right back Tapiwa Khumbuyani and Belgium-based left-back Vusa Nyoni were the fullbacks.
Tinashe Nengomasha was paired with Katsande in central midfield.
France-based winger Ovidy Karuru and Quincy Antipas, who plays in Denmark, operated on the wings with Edward Sadomba and Billiat up-front.
