Nigeria coach Samson Siasia dismisses Dickson Etuhu

Posted: 9 August 2011 Time: 09:21

Nigeria coach Samson Siasia is not losing any sleep over midfielder Dickson Etuhu's decision to make himself unavailable for selection.

Etuhu was handed a late call up to join the squad following withdrawals by several players, but declined, saying he did not wish to be considered for selection under Samson Siasia.   Asked about the decision at the pre-match press conference, Siasia did not seem overly concerned   "We all know we had problems with visas for some players. And he is here in London so we asked him to come and be part of this team.   "He said no. I don’t know what issues he has but that will be dealt with later."   Etuhu is said to be unhappy at having been ignored since Siasia took over, but his decision will cause little heartache for Siasia, who has a surfeit of midfielders higher up the pecking order than the Fulham man.   John Mikel Obi and Joel Obi have both locked down the central midfield roles, with Kalu Uche, Fengor Ogude and Nosa Igiebor all pushing hard to dislodge them.

Etuhu is a top player and Sia 1,you not only d No.1 coach in nigeria but a fantastic one at that.Etuhu is only aggrieved he is been left out of d picture all diz while not necessarily to be invited but atleast to be visited while you came over to london, having being a member of the team b4 u came on board.I am not gonna fault you on this but on d nigerian system dat makes it difficult to do it right. What i'm saying is pls don't take it on etuhu cos it takes a commited mind to be aggrieved on been sidelined.Even if some dz former players are not gonna be invited, personally make them understand like a father and son will do in d closet.I will 4ever support u Sia1,u're a big,big blessing to nigeria football;all d way 4rm 1985 u-20world cup.May God Almigthy always crown ur every effort with mighty success.Amen

Hey Colin, do you get paid at all? If yes you must be a lucky chap. You basically do nothing but copy and paste. Are you no longer a member of the NFF? Were you not supposed to be at the unveiling? If you were there, how come you did not remember to take pictures of the kit? You are one of the reasons Ghanaians and South Africans talk to Nigerians any how on this forum. I'm pretty sure you bought that award you shamelessly flaunt because you have never convinced anyone that you deserve it. How am I even sure you bother to read peoples comments on your stories cos if you do, u should have changed by now. Anytime I think of your matter, my mind goes to thousands of competent Nigerians that will do your job perfectly (even as a hobby). Please reduce the time you spend on twitter and spend more time doing your job.

Siasia needs get mentally balanced dealing with Nigerians either born abroad or brought up there, he needs to understand and amaximize their use. Etuhu was one of the most committed Eagles, like Yobo, Shittu, i think he ignored Etuhu, it's still not late to bring him in Etuhu's very committed, such players need not be ignore. If i'm Eagles i would drop Mikel Obi. Siasia please pick dedicated and committed players not the likes of Mikel Obi.

Hahaha, etuhu thinks he's a superstar, we don't need he's an overrated player always nervous, fearfull, backward, sluggish and lacks confidence, etuhu we don't need you we've got better midfielders like joel obi, fengor, igiebor, obiorah, rabiu and azeez.

While I don't like comparison, sometimes the action of some persons help me to better appreciate or understand that of others. The same thing that has been done to Etuhu has been done to Shittu. Now a late call-up was given to both - Shittu happily responded and Etuhu says "No". Who is really committed to the Super Eagles now? If Shittu is patriotic and reasonable by his response, then Etuhu is not. Let wait and see how Kaita, Ideye, Haruna, and others that have so far been "ignored" will respond when they are invited. Eventually, we will know who is really committed and who is not.

@ innoma different people respond to d same situation differently bcos of d complexity of their own situation n their being.Shittu is not only a wonderful player but he's got a beautiful personality just like many other players n dis could just be where d difference is n not necessarily about being commited than others.

The whole national players will never play at the same time...some are called up while others were not;that didn't mean that they were ignored or less important to those called or invited. They show respect and ready to play whenever they are called upon to play for the team. Some players at the club sides play for 30 seconds of a match, does that mean that they are less important to those that played for 90 or 94 munites? By the way,who are you as a player to dictet when to play you...who is etuhu and who is mikel and who are the players? We know only the coach as the one who has say.So if a player refuses to answer a call, thats his problem. He is entittled to his actions and openions and it depends on the coach to call him up next time or not. With or without him..there will always be Super Eagles and Siasia is the coach,at least for now.

Etuhu will not keep amusing me! Why is he being childish? Nigeria has one of the most talented pool of players on earth so why the noise if a new coach has suddenly bypassed you? Shame on you Etuhu! When Begti Vogts came on board, Vincent Enyiama was completely ignored for Austin Ejide, Onigbinde ignored Ike Shorunmu for this same Vincent Enyiama at Korea/Japan 2002 with the last game against England, that is part of life! Ike never bulged he took it as part of life same as Vincent under Vogts. When Ahmodu came on board, all Siasia’s boys graduating into the Super Eagles were all axed save for Taiye Taiwo and Mikel. Brazil with all he talents can’t invite every player at a time. You wait for your own time and opportunity under a new coach. Now Etuhu just lost a golden opportunity in his life to gain back his position and warm back his way to coach Sia1’s heart and what did we see, the typical Nigerian arrogance!
@ objective bibby, you beat me to it, I said it that day billion is coming back under a different name and lo and behold he is back as Opkastikoda, leopards are leopards any day, they hardly change! What has hairdo got to do with soccer I don’t understand, the last time he was leaving the forum, he made the whole forumites knew he was going as if he was in a dating site. Could somebody’s upbringing be playing a fast one no matter the education? Forumites over to you

@wiseman, the only reason enyeama played the game against england instead of ike shorunmu was because it was the last game and we were already out. It's common practice for coaches to give the 2nd-choice goalkeepers a run out in the last group game if the result is inconsequential. But apart from that, you make an excellent point.

@parkheaven @jck1976 @Opkastikoda @wiseman I think you guys are all correct in your comments all the rest don't know anything about football. When SE were the best we never had a parade of defensive midfielders all together at the same time in the team..We need more creative players than defensive midfielders... As for Etuhu he is most dull, sluggish and no creative Nigerian midfield player and there is no need for him in the team. All these people that lament for Etuhu's absence didn't they see the wworld cup in SA 2010 or they don-t se him in Fulham.... No vibe, no idea in his game he should be left out completely until he retires because he thinks that he can come over to the SE and make claims for positions. Please we should focus on player who can bring something dynamic to our midfield like the Okochas, Olisehs, Keshis etc Others should stay away please and concentrate in playing regularly for thier clubs... Greetings from Mexico...
