Shelembe poised to fill Serero's boots?

Ajax cape Town's Sici Shelembe looks like the new Thulani Serero

They are big boots to fill, but Sici Shelembe's outstanding debut was a step in the right direction as Ajax Cape Town look to overcome the loss of Thulani Serero.

Maarten Stekelenburg was very happy with Shelembe's performance against SuperSport United in the MTN8 this weekend, and the youngster scored a well-taken goal in the first half of the 5-2 win at Cape Town Stadium.   Lebo Manyama is another player that could potentially offset the absence of the 'Serero-factor', while 'Terror' Fanteni and Khama Billiat will also play their part by getting on the scoresheet – indeed they both netted braces against SuperSport.   Judging by Friday night's performance, it appears that Shelembe has the potential to fill at least a sizable portion of the gap created by Serero's departure to Ajax Amsterdam.   "Sici Shelembe is doing a great job there – I think he understands as a number 10 what we want, he finds the spaces between the lines [midfield and attack] – it's what we expect from that position, and he's doing very well.   "Of course he's new but he did well and we are happy with his progress," Stekelenburg says.   Meanwhile, Stekelenburg says no decision has been made on Mbulelo Mabizela's future: "'OJ' is training with us and we are busy seeing if we can sign him – it's part of a process – we look at the player and then we see if we can negotiate with him."

Was very impressed by Sici Shelembe and the Ajax midfield. They might not go as far as last season but they have really assembled a good squad. I think a "sober" OJ can really help this team.
