Impressive away wins for Sunshine Stars and Enyimba

Sunshine defeat Kabylie as the Aba Millionaires pip Coton Sport in Garoua to stay on top of their respective groups in Confederation and Champions League competition.

Debutants Sunshine Stars have carved out a big reputation for themselves as they defeated JS Kabylie 2-1 in a CAF Confederation Cup game in Algeria at the weekend.

The Nigerians came from a goal down to defeat the former champions in front of their fans, remaining top of Group B with six points.

Salim Hanifi scored for the hosts before Emmanuel Sunday found an equaliser and then Sakibu Atanda scored the winner 14 minutes before full time.

In the Champions League, Enyimba made up for their draw on day one with a 3-2 defeat of Cameroon’s Coton Sport in Garoua.

The Aba Millionaires went 2-0 ahead with goals from Uche Kalu and Chidozie Johnson but the hosts clawed back as Chardin Reginal Mfoutou scored just after the break and then substitute Idrissa Seydou put them level.

It was Kalu who scored the winner five minutes before the end to send the Nigerians top of Group A with four points.

“I’m very happy to have scored two goals here. We came here to win and we did it. Now we are top of the group so let’s see what happens in our remaining games,” Kalu was quoted by Fifa.com.

What a delightful weekend for Nigeria football? Kaduna United did not even disappoint in their away match against Club Africaine. The sweetest though is the FE. Congrats to all. However, the FEs need cohesion in the middle of the pack. The guys are good but need compactness in the midfield. Dami Paul seems to be uncomfortable staying idle. He is 'hyperactive.' He should be careful on his movements. Overall, its a great weekend for Nigeria.

Nigerian league players should be applauded.Despite low turn out at match venues, lack of motivation, little or no sponsorship and financial rewards, their sign on fees, bonuses and salaries not being paid as at when due, they have managed to keep it going, little wonder not much is known about the abundance of talents in nigeria till they explode in europe.i watch enyimba against coton sports and couldnt believe any Nigerian clubside could go to cameroun and out play them like they did.same with relatively unknown and inexperienced sunshine stars outshining the algerian giants in their backyard not to mention kaduna united.up NNNAAAIIIJJJAAA.

Nice one to Nigerian football. In recent times Nigerian football has began to peak again. Except for the under 23's who could not hold their own against a Ghanaian team that could'nt beat Sudan.Anyway, they could make do with the African games medal because it will take them another four years to try again on the olympics. Gold in olympics is still very far from them not to talk of silver.
Kudos 9ja football, we urge to take back your rightful position on the continental football. Leave those inconsistent pretenders alone.

Bob : 2011-08-03 08:15

@Podium...Abi why do you display wanton Ghana obsession here. The issue being discussed has nothinbg to do with Ghana. Meanwhile the Ghana team that lost out to Sudan is different from the one that eliminated Naija U-23. If Olympics Gold is very far from Ghana so is the U-20 Gold far from Naija. Meanwhile what is Naija's rightful place in Continental footbal. ? How many ANC Titles do you have ? The ONLY time Nigeria dominated African football was 1994. With all the resources you have you still fear Ghana...mmcheew. Imaging Ghana having even a quarter of the resources Nigeria have....

God literally became a Nigerian that weekend.......Home He will remain to be..............But the mad people at the glass house need psychiatric rehabilitation on the Mal-administration of Nigerian football

Well we could go on and pour encomium on Nigerian club sides that had an excellent performance all of them away from home. God literally became a Nigerian that weekend.......Hope He will remain to be..............But the mad people at the glass house need psychiatric rehabilitation on the Mal-administration of Nigerian football....what was their contribution to the performance of these teams?
