'Parker is not Musona's replacement'

Bobby Motaung says new signing Bernard Parker is not Knowledge Musona's replacement

Posted: 28 July 2011 Time: 2:37 pm

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung reveals that Amakhosi were interested in Bernard Parker since before he left for Europe: “It is our biggest signing this season.”

Parker – who flies into Johannesburg tonight from Europe – has penned a two-year contract with Chiefs, just as Knowledge Musona leaves for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, but Motaung insists Parker is not there to emulate the Zimbabwean.

“Parker is not a replacement but an addition to the squad. There can only be one Musona and it is for that reason that I say Parker is not a replacement but rather a reinforcement. This is the biggest signing for Chiefs this season,” Motaung says.

Parker’s agent Mike Makaab was determined to keep his charge in Europe, although KickOff.com got a whiff of the South African interest back in April.

“Before Bernard left for Europe to play in Serbia he had actually signed [a pre-contract] with us,” Motaung confirms, “but it was a deal subject to him winning a contract in Europe.

“He joins the team tomorrow at training and will be paraded on Saturday when we play in the Carling Black Label Cup.”

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic, who KickOff.com reported was interested in Parker three weeks ago, and confirmed two weeks ago, is delighted that he has acquired his target.

“I am happy that I now have Parker because he is a player that I know from Serbia and Bafana Bafana,” ‘VV’ says. “But then I will have to be careful with him because he hasn’t played much of late.”

Makaab, who was also involved in Musona’s move, adds that Parker chose Chiefs ahead of Swedish clubs Malmo FF and Helsingborgs IF.

“I initially spoke to Bobby about their interest in the player. Chiefs were interested and the talks developed into full-blown proportions last week; it was only yesterday that he signed.

“Malmo and Helsingborgs were also interested but Bernard felt it was right to move to Chiefs.”

well done Bobby man, you did very good job by signing this guy but now you also have to fix your defence man we begg you please please!! we are not certisfied with Sweswe and Issacs, how about Mogan Gould? because its hard for other players to score more goals whereas they always consider a goal after scoring those goals.
