Tsepo Masilela linked to English Championship side Nottingham Forest

Masilela could sign for Forest

Posted: 2011-07-25 09:43

The agent of Tsepo Masilela has hinted English Championship side Nottingham Forest could be interested in signing the Bafana Bafana left back on a season-long loan.

Steve McClaren tried to sign the Maccabi Haifa player last year when he was manager of Dutch side FC Twente and once compared the 26-year-old to England's Ashley Cole. And after his move to Leicester City fell through when Sven Goran Eriksson signed Paul Konchesky instead, Mike Makaab says Masilela could link up with another former England boss at the City Ground.

"Steve McClaren loved him when he was at FC Twente and they made a bid for him in January last year," he tells KickOff.com.

"I haven't spoken to Steve recently but if there is interest in Tsepo then it would make sense because he told me he reminds him of Ashley Cole. We'll have to wait and see what happens in the next couple of weeks."

Despite having agreed terms for a season-long loan from Israeli champions Haifa,

Eriksson left Masilela in the lurch as he snapped up Liverpool reject Konchesky for £1.5 million. Makaab believes that Eriksson has made a major mistake and tipped his client to bounce back from the disappointment.

"Leicester have lost out on potentially one of the most exciting left backs in European football," he said.

"It's pretty sad because we worked extremely hard to help him realise his ambition of playing in England. But we have moved on and there is some serious interest in England again, plus from clubs in Spain, Scotland and Holland. I can't divulge names at the moment but we hope to start negotiations again soon."

Should it not be Tshabalala they are signing?

Nipsy: 2011-07-25 10:20

He can come to CHIEFS to replace 3-Points if his deal does not materialise rather than playing in Israel he already has Champions league experience so why remain there while there is nothing more to achieve.

@Mgugudi, why not Cowtrain or Jali?

I am sure this decent left back player will make when he is given a chance during is trial. Masilela is a super rocking star for Bafana Bafana.
