Harry Reknapp says Bongani Khumalo set to leave White Hart Lane

Harry says Bongani likely to leave

Posted: 2011-07-22 13:57

Harry Redknapp has given his strongest hint yet that Bongani Khumalo’s immediate future lies away from Tottenham Hotspur.

Khumalo joined Spurs from SuperSport United, but has so far been unable to break into the first team squad and spent some time on loan at Preston North End in the Championship before injury struck him down.

Redknapp, speaking ahead of the 2011 Vodacom Challenge Final at Coca-Cola Park against Orlando Pirates, says it’s very like that Khumalo, who has been linked with Glasgow Rangers and Bristol City, will spend this season away from White Hart Lane.

“Possibly Bongani could go out as he needs experience,” Redknapp says. “Look, it’s a new way of life for him in England, and this will be his first full season here.

“Several clubs have made enquiries about signing him on loan. And he needs to play … he can’t just sit on the bench the whole time. He’s not going to be starting, so the best option is for him to go on loan and get some experience.”

Meanwhile, Redknapp confirms that Steven Pienaar will play some part in tomorrow’s Final. ‘Schillo’ has not tasted any action yet as he works he way back from injury, but it seems he will now at least get some game-time in South Africa.

“I’m hoping Steven is fit to start,” Redknapp says. “I would like for him to play here in his home country. He has had problems with injury, but I’m looking to give him at least 45 minutes tomorrow.”

"Look, it’s a new way of life for him in England" - BS. What makes Harry think that Rangers and Bristol are Bongani's old way of life? If he can adapt at these clubs he can very well adapt at the Lane.

Again, why do they bother buying these guys if they have no intentions of playing them?

I just wish one day i will understand why our current crop of players (BB material) are rejected left and right by the big leagues including small ones like championship/Qatar/Israel etc.....yet teenagers in West and North Africa make it with EASY.

Our league is ranked amoung the best in the world.......is it only financially?

Look at his: Good development structures will not encounter any problem whn exporting talented footballers.

Otherwise some are playing with age. What if Shappa reduce his age to 22 years and Douti to 17 years, you can add the list. They will pass with flying stars.

Not surprising. The boy looked a bit shaky against cHIVs. He tried too hard to appear relaxed and matured! Good for him to gain more experience elswhere. Hopes it works for him like it did for Segolela, Mathebula and Makhanya to name a few good examples
