Lucky Lekgwathi impressed by Siyabonga Sangweni

Lucky impressed by Sangweni

Posted: 2011-07-22 08:50

Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi says he has been very impressed with their new signings, especially defensive partner Siyabonga Sangweni.

The duo played the full 90 minutes of Bucs’ 1-0 Vodacom Challenge Derby win against Kaizer Chiefs in Port Elizabeth on Thursday night, and looked largely untroubled as Amakhosi were generally restricted to shots from distance.

Lekgwathi seems the most likely to lose out on a starting place following Sangweni’s arrival from Golden Arrows, but Pirates’ captain had nothing but praise for his new teammate.

“I was very happy with Sangweni’s movements and passing. I thought we clicked very well. He is a good player and I wish him well this season,” says Lekgwathi, who admits they were not at their best in the first half.

“We started at a low pace and they came at us, but in the second half we regrouped and went at them; pressed them. It was a tough game, but luckily we got the goal.”

Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau was not too fazed by the result, saying this match was about much more than just getting a positive result.

“It’s not all about winning,” he says. “We should use this match to realise where we are in terms of preparation; it’s given us a bigger picture to see where we are at. We take the good out of the bad … we took loads of lessons out of this.”

South Africans are in for a wonderful season of football, good advert of what is yet to come.

mavee@: 2011-07-22 09:05

typical of jimmy tau to say its not about winning, well you are a confused old man. you are the one who always say there are no friendly matches between the two teams. so hey, madala just admit that your team is useless. sangweni is indeed an excellent buy. up the bucs.

Jacob/Styles: 2011-07-22 09:05

Yha! Well Nsimbi has fitted very well in that Championship winning team, however i still maintain that the best is yet to come from OP. As for Tau yes it is true play the champions now and get the bigger picture of where u are in terms of being ready for a treble. Indlela ibuzwa kwabaphambili mfana wami.

I have one word for PSL team this season: "INSIMBI"

Once & Always!

CKABOPHA: 2011-07-22 09:31

I'm not a Bucs Fan, kodwa I'm very much impressed with Buccaneers, they are very comfortable with their displays especially at the back, they are solid & very stable. Good signing for Sangweni. He closed these 2 overrated strikers (Musona & Mojoro). Sangweni should have been very far by now, if he jumped the ship, he would have been played in overseas. Respect to HIM

Jele deserves to be in the national team as well, he also improved drastically, umona phansi, the treble it's on it's way again this season.

UP THE BUCS

Stonza: 2011-07-22 09:39

the boy plays very well, he even plays better than he used to ko Golder Arrows...i see him commanding that position and making it his own...Good signing Bhakaniya, as for chiefs...the best thing they have is the number of fans in the stadium...other than that, nothing on the field....i see most strikers strugling to score against bakajuju...lol..lol..i see a rain of goals at chifs..am sad for Khune, i think he is the best but with weak defence...he must come to Europe (Downs)...kaboyelo!!!

Lets take a good look at this PieAIDS jersey,Are you guyz still of the idea that this ugly adidas design is better than the AMAKHOSI by NIKE?

BobbyMotaung: 2011-07-22 09:46

Yha Lekgwathi uqinisile ngaleliqiniso lakho, Sangweni is very good and very comfertable on the ball, doesn't penic. I last saw the over-rated ones(Mshoza and Majozi)when they were walking to the field and when they were taken out, they were the useless Zebras infact all those who came in for them were just as useless as them, less said about their No: 10 the better.

mzo : 2011-07-22 09:48

imagine this. Thwala, sangweni, Muhamutsa and jele. With this kind of back 4, we'll conside about 10 goals the whole season, cups included.

tebotouch : 2011-07-22 09:57

lets face it zebra's were out numbered @ da field of play n on the stands by bucs...!

Fela: 2011-07-22 10:02

I was impressed with Ntsimbi too captain Lekgwathi. I liked the team spirit displayed on the day of the game, just worried about upfront and scoring goals. However things will improve as the team start to gel and understand each other.

Keep working hard Buccerneers.

TrebleBoyz : 2011-07-22 10:19

Bucs are on fire!!!, Tau bekaziduduza, they couldn't handle Pirates quickness on the field

poza: 2011-07-22 10:21

Mzo:u couldnt have said it better,my brother.its the best back four i have been dreaming about, jele, mahamutsa, sangweni and thwala.plus encourage jali and manyisa to play a bit forward!!!

Jam Jam: 2011-07-22 10:49

@ mzo
@ poza

It has also been my dream in the past 4 weeks to have back four: Jele, Thwala, Mahamutsa, Sangweni.

Eish mara, I don't trust Senzo Meyiwa.
Regarding Manyisa and Jele: We love both of them, but I think the team team will continue to struggle in scoring many goals if Oupa and Andile continue playing together as defence midfielders.

Champ Mriyo (Trebble kings of SA): 2011-07-22 10:50

I think our captain can sense that he wont get regular game time.I also think Sangweni n Ngubo combo wil do just fine. You have played yo part but we still need u in the team incase sh!t hapens.

InterSam aka Nkope: 2011-07-22 10:51

Tau of Zebra's please dont come with this cheap excuses. if you didn't play for win why did you try to assist the likes of Mosunu and Mojolo to score? UP THE BUCS

Champ "Superbrand": 2011-07-22 10:56

Was Musunu and Nengomasha Playing? Please people answer. I did not see them. Are they injured or what?

poza: 2011-07-22 11:01

Jamjam my brother,u spot on.how about we try mhlongo and jali, that way jali would push forward knowing we have the best cover.as for senzo,a bit suspect!!!

Sangweni is gud, some are regreting, they did not sign him, his attitude is perfect, think Lucky can get a rest, Roy and Sangweni can take charge of that central defence!

Tolly.ba.Thathe: 2011-07-22 11:39

This Zebra called Tau is consoling himself.

Stonza: 2011-07-22 11:40

King, please drink water and be at peace with the fact that Teko is gone and will never return. We are busy reviving him and bring him back to his best..... you will see him at his best this season and that is a promise...you are right abt Mayambela, for me even tlou, he is more effective when the defenders are already tired and dizzy.
You guys have a good squad, jst get a good goalie cause when you meet teams like Sundawana, he will cost you very much...Milkshake doesnt play but scorez....
Kaboyelo, till my soul touch the sky!!!

Tolly.ba.Thathe: 2011-07-22 11:43

This jersey of Bucs is classic. On Tuesday it was the message "Happy 93 Birthday" and yesterday it was spotting yet another message "Black Label Cup"...not that I am a great fan of this tourney but I am only impressed by the professional business at OPFC...they print this jerseys accordingly while the same can't be said about the self-proclaimed-most professional team in Natulawayo/Zoo....

@Stonza,

We cant be at peace, we want our Teko back now. Its not fair for him to wear that yellow cheap marabastad Kit with no golden star. We want Champ Teko the general back!!

Stonza: Kroll gave a treble but cost us the greatest ACE in Teko Modise. i will never accept this, maybe the talent at our disposal will make it better, but Teko was just the best.

i had never seen a player who tool national responsibility on his shoulders.

@KING,

I agree with you Champ, this boy Teko is a super player but all Sundowns knows is mining. I am telling you, we need to rescue Teko but bringing him back home. I am dissapointed that we did not bring vilakazi and OJ back home. And these two players was distroyed by the mining FC. We cant allow the same on Teko. Now where is mdledle?
