Vladimir Vermezovic complains of too many Soweto Derbies

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic believes it is only fair that Tottenham Hotspur should also fight for the right to play in the Vodacom Challenge Final.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium against Orlando Pirates, ‘VV’ suggested that the English team should also play for their spot, rather than the current format which has the winner of the Derby going through to the deciding match.

“It’s not right that we have to fight to get into the final game,” Vermezovic says. “I think all the teams must fight to play in that match.”

The Chiefs coach also had a go at the number of Soweto Derbies currently being played, saying he fears it might lose what make it special.

“This season we [Chiefs and Pirates] could play anything between six and eight games against each other,” Vermezovic says. “That is not right for a Derby. The match can lose a lot that way.”

VV also heaped praise on Pirates for their performance during the 1-1 draw against Spurs last night.

Asked by KickOff.com whether he watch the game, Vermezovic responded: “Of course … I’m a big fan of football. I like to watch all the games. Pirates were very aggressive, especially in the opening 20 minutes. They were the better team and deserved to win.”

Meanwhile, Vermezovic reveals that Kaizer Motaung Jnr is his only doubt for the Derby, having picked up a leg injury during training yesterday.

I don't know who came with this lousy idea of giving English teams an advantage everytime they coem in the country . If it was an African country they would have came up with a better idea . Whoever came up with this idea is dom and lousy

Derby will always be a derby .....as long as it's Chiefs & Pirates.

Blessing in disguise for Motaung Jrn , I dont trust him that much upfront .

We can play 50 derbies in one season and each match will always be special and enjoyable to the fans.

Trust me , it's like watching Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Last season they played 4 times in less than a 2 months and each game was good .

100% for that observation VV, if we are meant to see competition no team should have an automatic ticket to the final, that would make the tourney even more interesting. Why is Vodacom discriminating Bloem Celtics, would it have been seen as a norm if one between Chiefs or Pirates was being excluded? And we say the apartheid era is gone...my foot!! Talk about South Africans discriminating their own!!

Yes visiting european teams must fight for final. To be in a final means you will win a trophy, first price money and gold medals. I also support a four team format. Derby must come from winning in the format as it can't be avoided, even now as they are three points must be used.
