Fifa Rankings: Burkina Faso overtake Nigeria

Fifa Rankings: Burkina Faso overtake Nigeria

Posted: 29 June 2011 Time: 06:29 pm

Despite a recent run of good results, Nigeria's slide down the FIFA Rankings table continued in the month of June, with the country dropping two places to 41 in the world.

However, with South Africa dropping nine places, Nigeria's position on the continent remained safe at 5th. That was no consolation, as Burkina Faso jumped seven places to overtake Nigeria and move to 4th.

Ivory Coast ascended the top of the African ladder, leaping 7 places to displace Ghana at the top of the continental rankings.

The Black Stars drop down to second after plummeting a massive 18 places.

Two of Nigeria's African Nations Cup group rivals also lost rankings places. Guinea dropped 4 places to 66th in the world and and one place down in the continental rankings, while Ethiopia dropped 8 places in the world rankings to 136 but only one place down in Africa to 37.

Madagascar remained unmoved in both world and continental rankings.

This ranking should be a reflection of national teams performance I acknowledge Ivory Coast superiority over other african countries at the moment but i think Senegal and Nigeria deserve a better rating than Egypt. This is a challenge the national team handlers need to face and start thrashing all oppositions in subsequent matches (friendly or competitive)..I believe we have the players to be among the best 5.....

Does this even make any sense? How does Burkina Faso overtake Nigeria in Africa soccer? And who can explain the ranking, especially since Nigeria has won quite a few matches rather convincingly lately, losing only the Tanzania (away) game. Who at FIFA computes the ranking anyway?

Everyone should know by now that FIFA is not in support of Nigerian Progress in football.When Nigerian Defeated Argentina,FIFA paste on their website that Nigeria Defeated Argentina B team,What is B team in Friendly match?and this is why Referee are against Nigeria all the time because they know that FIFA is always on their back.Even if Nigeria wins world cup,they will still be sliding in ranking,just Imagine Burkina Faso that hasn't won any international match.I hope and believe that this evil act will catch up with FIFA president and officials soon or later which might result in wrongful death.If i can venture an opinion,i will advice Nigeria to pull off from any FIFA sports.

Lets not attach too much importance to dis ranking stuff.In every game of football,its ur skill and organisation on d field dat decides d game,not ur position in world football.Leave FIFA to keep amusing themselves &lets do d bizness on d field.Which wld u prefer, to be d best ranked team in d world or winning matches and trophies?When d chips are down,ranking counts for nothing.

@sley, will do.
Lets remain focus and keep winning our games. There is no trophy for being top ranked and even then top ranked teams who get lucky to be ranked with low teams are still knocked out or rattled, history has proved it.
Be it Cambodia overtakes Nigeria, or otherwise,we still remain a force to be reckoned with in football. Period.

The Super Eagles’ handlers should not be discouraged over the position of the Super Eagles on FIFA rankings released for the month of June 2011. Instead, they should concentrate on building a solid team and winning their matches. Sooner the team will rise convincingly on the FIFA rakings.

PEACE BE TO ALL!
