Modise says he is not feeling affects of fatigue

Posted: 19 March 2008 Time: 10:07

Orlando Pirates’ midfielder Teko Modise says he has no knowledge of coach Owen da Gama’s concern that he could be suffering from fatigue.

In fact, the Buccaneer tells KickOff.com that his legs are still strong and will carry him until the end of the season.

According to an earlier Press report Da Gama had voiced his concern that Modise was showing signs of fatigue.

The coach pointed out that after their visit to Cape Town to play against Santos in the Nedbank Cup, Modise looked tired after playing almost all Bafana Bafana and Pirates’ games this season without a break.

Da Gama allegedly then laid the blame on Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira for his player’s potential burn-out as Modise had been called up for every game the country has played recently, including those at the Afcon Cup in Ghana.

“Parreira says that he is looking at players and various options, and I can understand if he calls up Modise for the main fixtures on the Bafana programme, but I don’t understand why the midfielder must play in each and every friendly international match as well,” the Pirates coach is quoted as saying.

“If Parreira doesn’t know Modise’s strengths and weaknesses by now, then I don’t know. Modise is a key element of the Pirates set-up and will play a crucial role as we head towards the run-in of the Premier League in which our club is lying in third place on the league table.”

But Modise has different feelings to that of his coach.

“So far I haven’t felt any signs of fatigue. The coach hasn’t spoken to me about being tired after playing so many games this season.

“I believe I am still physically okay as I haven’t felt anything affecting my play as yet.”

“We played well against Santos, especially after coming back from a 2-0 deficit and I played more than 60 minutes after being a man down.

“As far as the championship title is concerned, I am convinced that we still have chance to catch up with both Ajax [Cape Town] and Supersport [United]. We want to treat each every match as cup final, starting with out fixture against Thanda Royal Zulu.”

Bucs will be without the services of Innocent Mdledle, Senzo Meyiwa and Lebohang Mokoena this weekend.

I think DA Gama is being selfish here for blaming Perreira. Teko is currently the anchor man and Perreira is playing around him with different set up. Otherwise he is right to check out for the player.

come on Owen,Bafana need Teko as much as you do at Pirates. The boy also needs to learn more about football. He is a great player but you need to give him opportunities and space to grow.He played well against Santos and this must not be your excuse following Sunday's game.

Exuses, excuses, excuses from ODG. He said that coz they lost the game, had they won, he wd have sung a different tune. Remember when he was still coaching Platinum Stars, when they lost the game he'll always complain about lack of sponsors, them being a small team blah blah blah, only to sing a different tune if the win the game.Just like madala Ted, ODG is full of excuses

The wise man from the east followed the STAR. The star is right on top of your roof, come follow,..come follow the STAR.

Teko mfana, against all odds, you have made it. I wish you best of luck and I believe you are the PSL player of the season.

Just focus on your game. Many people would celebrate your downfall. because they are very jealous. So prove them wrong my brother.

Parraira by now, should be in a position of knowing Teko's strength & weakneness.

CHiefs won Telkom - 2007/8 season
Pirates out of Nedbank cup, they have "best players" they are happy people. guys u are in denial. u are useless people.

its about time you get a real coach and couple of good players.

He's not tired, but just proing how we as South Africans overated him. ODG blames Parreirra, but he also has a lot in the middle of the park, but doesn't utilise them instead, he gave Teko to much responsibility and to top ot all of he even gave him the Captains arm belt. Teko must play every Bafana game because the National team doesn't play every weekend. ODG is starting to feel the pressure, and now he's looking for people to blame. Ayeye Bakhaniya.. Kunzima Kwenyukela mange... he he he.. ODG is starting to make excuses... remeber at Platinum Stars he used to blame lack of sponsorship now its Fatigue... he he he...
