Stat Attack: Ndulula goes level with Nomvete

Bongani Ndulula equals Siyabonga Nomvete's Under-23 record

Posted: 27 June 2011 Time: 09:36 am

South African Under-23 striker Bongani Ndulula has equaled Siyabonga Nomvete’s long-standing record for Amaglug-glug goals following his brace against Zimbabwe in an All-Africa Games qualifier on Saturday.

Nomvete netted 15 times in 25 appearances for Amaglug-glug between 1997 and 2000, but ‘Drogba’ has matched that record – and in only 14 matches!

And with the eight nations qualification tournament for the 2012 London Olympics set for December, he looks certain to go well past that record.

The next player on the scorers list is another former Pirates star, the late Lesley Manyathela, who scored nine goals in 15 games, the same number as Daniel Matsau, who took 27 games to reach that mark.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Lebohang Mokoena scored eight goals for the national Under-23, along with Quinton Fortune, to round out the top five on the scorers list.

The first-ever scorer for the Under-23s was Randall Borman, who netted in a 1-1 draw with Angola in November 1994. That was the team’s third-ever match; their two, against Ghana and the Angolans again, finished 0-0.

The first player to net a hat-trick for the side was former Manning Rangers striker George Koumantarakis, who scored all three goals in a 3-2 success over Kenya in April 1996. He scored five goals in all for the side in 12 games.

I don't understand why P-Rats have been using the tied Cloete when they have a very exciting left back in the name on Mxoyane in their reserves. Also Chiefs decided to go all the way to Zim for for Thomas 'wrong turn' Sweswe while they the young and exciting Lucky Baloyi in their development. Su-doms went to Zim and Nigeria to look for quality players while they have Themba Zwane in their reserves as well.

Only if our team take use all this talent wisely, SA will be unstopable in the near future. At least Vilakazi, Jayiya, Sangweni, and Nsthumayelo are playing regulary in their respective teams

I am one of those people who harshly criticised Dr Irvin Khoza for signing a released palyer from Bloemfontein Celtics. Celtics wanted to loan him to a NFD team and he refused and was handed him clearance. Orlando Pirates came in and snatched him. He was sent strainht to the development aft4er he arrived. I said to my self, there goes Pirates again. Augasto Palacious cooked him, he never complained and he gave his best in development with patience. Any other player would have been demotivated by being sent to the development. Look at him now, he has developed into natural goal getter, not only for the Chan=mpions Pirates but for the country as well. Dr Khoza, Professor Palacious need to be applauded for this.

Now @ Legend,
how on earth can associate a story of an unknown Argentinian team with Kaizer Chiefs? Did you dream of Chiefs being relegated as well or you just can not afford to write anything without mentioning Chiefs on it, just like any sport magazines and news papers in this country. Thats exactly the reason why 95% soccer fans are supporting the Mighty Amakhosi in this country. Its because of the morons like you who always find something bad to say about this wonderful team!!!! I don't understand why you hate it when the media write about Kaizer Chiefs since you also enjoy writing about Chiefs!!!!!

This boy is good I hope he does not get big headed if he wants to go higher and higher, he will carry Oprhans next season if given a chance, we are tired of DOOM-DOOM and strikers scoring 5 goals per season from Orphans. Believe you me Chiefs will have another top striker next season, so it will be good if Oprhans have atleast one quality striker.

Bethwell you stole my words great comment... Orlando Pirates dont need to sign any player upfront this season Mthembu and Ndulula can do the Job upfront with Mashego and Otorugu comming in during suspension, Fatigue, loss of form or injuries... With Mbuyane and Tlou as 2nd or 3rd Right and left winger strikers respectively and Chansa as a Central Attacking Midfielder a shortage of goals i dont see... Mabena and Msowoya should be sold along with Makonese, Mothibantwa, Kamwendo, And the rest of the on loan players cause Mhlong and Thwala are back and they are versatile players..

4 strikers 3 right wings including Doutie 3 Left wingers 4 CDM 2 RB 3 CB 2 LB 2GK and 6 versatile reserves from junior ranks

Masenamela, Nahayo and Musona they all found Chiefs as a big team and their absence will only impact temporarily, I believe in Kaizer. Jambo is also a good left back even though that does not add value to our nation but will definitely add value to our team. As for Masenamela it is the end of the road, Kickoff find out what is the latest about Majoro and that Okwi from Uganda.

This is what we call a strike indeed,i was at the stadium Honestly these boys compliment each other couldn't even miss some players that were not there BHONGOLETHU JAYIYA NO12 AND THEMBA ZWANE NO8 were doing it for us together on the flanks with Drogba and Bhengu.I personally think nothing can stop us if we carry ourself the way we doing by giving players that want to play and who also need exposure.I'm so addicted to the style of play thats been used by the under 23 KEEP it up Ndulula,Jayiya and Zwane you guys going far we don't want bad things to happen to you as what happened to the first team that went to the olympics ie Steve,Jabu and Ace Gulwa

Go all the way Guys
