"Messi needs 1283 goals to be better than me"

Lionel Messi needs to score 1283 goals to be better than me - Brazil legend Pele

Posted: 24 June 2011 Time: 10:36 am

Brazil legend Pele believes Lionel Messi needs to score more goals than he did if he is to be considered the best player ever.

Speaking after his former club Santos beat Penarol 2-1 to lift the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday evening, the 70-year-old told the press: "Messi better than Pele? To get there he needs to score more than 1283 goals."

Pele appeared to hit back at former Argentina coach Diego Maradona who recently claimed Neymar was bad-mannered just like the three-time World Cup winner, after the Santos forward said he could be better than Messi by staying in Brazil, rather than moving to Europe where Real Madrid have been linked with him.

Pele added: "Neymar has great talent. I hope Neymar doesn't end up like Messi, who plays so well for his club but does nothing for his country [Argentina]."

Messi scored 31 goals in La Liga, and 12 in the Champions League, including one in the final at Wembley as his side lifted the European Cup last term.

Patroit007: have u seen Neymar play?, do u understand why Real is interested in him.

Can Pele say the same thing to CR7 a real scoring machine.

Messi is great in Spain but why does he struggle at national team. Does he affirms to the talks that maybe he only masters Barca's methods since he grew up within the structures.

Why do so many people have short memories, some years ago Rivaldo (world player of 1999) was asked by his son to buy him a ronaldinho No 10 barca jersey, he jokingly went into his wardrobe brought out his No barca jersey and said son why buy ronaldinho when you already have rivaldo, his son rejected the shirt insisting on dinho's jersey. rivaldo turned to his wife & smlied saying the boy would not understand, how time flies and memories easily lost! lesson : pele, maradona, romario, ronaldo, rivaldo, figo, zidane, etc past. messi xavi n co present, neymar n co future each generation has its own criteria for judging greatness lets stop doing dis-service to our heroes by these biased comparisms!

just put youtube and watch pele, then will make your choice, you will see how hard it was for them to play at that time, the pitch, the bank, the book they are wearing, then look at his age 17 he win world cup, he is the only player that won the world cup 3 times, look when they say pele was great and some call him king of soccer, even people bow down for him in the filed after some matchers, in fact he was like religion it self and was a national trasure to brazil, please you cant messi will never be like pele nor archive what he has archive, pele is pele, even his name will pass to the other generation coming.

GHANA COMPLAIN ABOUT BENIN FACILITIES

Ghana’s Under-23 team have complained about poor facilities in Benin City, Nigeria, ahead of the All Africa Games final qualifying round first leg tie on Saturday, GHANAsoccernet.com has reported..

The Black Meteors arrived on Thursday morning and checked in at the Isno Hotel.
The team had to abandon an evening warm-up exercise because of the poor state of the training pitch.

“It’s like a school park and a dumping site with people also defecating somewhere. We are all shocked ,” an exasperated player told GHANAsoccernet.com

The Meteors will train at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Stadium, venue for the cagey qualifier.

The food served at the hotel for supper was inadequate for the 28-man contingent and some had to eat their rice without chicken.

The winner of the two-legged will qualify for the Games in Maputo, Mozambique in September this year.

What we must know is that this white people dont give up easily to each other when it comes to pride. Secondely you can see how pele is defending neymar. If it was to be our own, we will be the one castrating before the world. Please let value our own. Here we say our leader live or love power. What are these people fighting for? Look at what sepp blater did ruling for 4term amounting to 16year or more and also look at ban-ki-moon and many others. Please let stop fighting our own instead let force them to do what we want in legal means.

Pele is jealous because Messi is better than him. Neymar will not achieve half of what messi has, up to so far, none is better than him, not Maradona and especially not Pele.

Messi is the greatest!

ODEMWINGIE, SIASIA HOLD PEACE TALKS

NFF Brokers Eagles Coach, Striker’s Meeting In America

FOOTBALL:
The lingering face-off between Super Eagles head coach Samson Siasia and West Brom striker Osaze Odemwingie is expected to be settled soon as the both men are set to meet to resolve in the USA.Odemwingie has been left out of the Super Eagles’ last two games following a spat with Siasia in the aftermath of the Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in Abuja in March. The striker left the camp without the coach’s permission and then further angered Siasia with a comment on the social networking site Twitter that the gaffer considered insulting.

Siasia has since insisted that Odemwingie has to apologise to his Super Eagles colleagues and the coaches for him to get back in the national team.

But a highly placed source in the Nigeria Football Federation has exclusively told Complete Sports that the two men have scheduled to meet in the USA to resolve the matter as the country cannot afford to have a divided house.

"The NFF has been able to arrange a truce between Siasia and Osaze in USA,” the NFF official told Complete Sports. “It is expected that Osaze would apologise to Siasia and both of them would work harmoniously for the good of the country. Siasia and Osaze are both holidaying in the USA and we have been able to talk them into meeting for a truce.

"Siasia is the boss and he cannot afford to have a players’ mutiny in the team and the earlier we settle the matter the better. I’m happy they have agreed to talk and that is good for us."

Complete Sports gatherd that Siasia was commended by the NFF for putting his foot down against indiscipline but added that the federation decided to wade in because Osaze is needed in the team and the country cannot afford to lose his contribution.
