Maarten Stekelenburg is new Ajax Cape Town coach

Posted: 21 June 2011 Time: 10:46 am

KickOff.com can confirm that Maarten Stekelenburg is the new Ajax Cape Town coach.

Stekelenburg – not to be confused with current Netherlands goalkeeper – is Ajax's current Head of Youth Development.

It is understood that the club is very happy with the work that Stekelenburg had done with the youth as one of the driving forces behind the Vincent Baartjies League in Cape Town.

He also has the backing of recently retired Urban Warriors first-choice goalie Hans Vonk, who was also the one who recommended Foppe de Haan to the club.

Dutch Under-19 national team coach Wim van Zwam recently rejected Ajax's offer, the Cape team's other prospective choice, Mozambique national team coach Mart Nooij, is out of the picture too.

I feel vindicated again by the Ajax decision. If Krol is such a good coach why are they not employing him. He is Ajax through & through, was part of the legendary Ajax & Holland team...
