Mamelodi Sundowns defender Matthew Booth worries about his future

Posted: 6 June 2011 Time: 15:01

Veteran defender Matthew Booth is gradually becoming worried about his future as his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns has still not been renewed.

Booth is recovering from a knee injury he picked up at the end of February during a League match against Bidvest Wits.   At 34, Booth is aware of how difficult it will be to get another team if Sundowns do not renew his contract.   “My contract is up at the end of June and I am waiting on Sundowns to let me know what is going to happen. I hope that they renew it because it will not be good if they don’t, as I am still injured,” says Booth.   “I am having no holiday at all because I have to continue working through June. My plan is to be ready to join the rest of the squad for pre-season training. I am getting stronger with every gym session I attend and I have regained all the muscle I had lost.   “While I think about my return from injury, it is equally important to worry about my contract,” the towering defender says.   Sundowns are remaining quiet about player contract renewals as they first have to decide who will coach the team next season.

Booth: Tell them that Bobby Motaung wants to meet you for coffee this weekend then they'll extend your contract for another 3 yrs

Parreira Sorted you out, you and Mokoena were always our weakest links in our national team defence. Hope you watched togerther with the other veteran (Mokoena)how the boys defended well in your absence yesterday. Thanks to Pitso and Parreira for taking you two out of our national team, as for Tuckshop I don't care what happens with your contract.

And the broke cabbage farmers speak out!

Booth, my man, you should really consider retirement. Your knees have taken too many knocks over the years. Phela, you should still be able to run with your baby boy as you coach him.

Also, since you will be a free agent, the cabbage farm might just be the place for you, to replace Nahayo.
