Real Tamale United relegated from Glo Premier League
RTU go down after 33 years

Real Tamale United have been knocked out of the top division in Ghana football after Stephen Manu’s goal at New Edubiase left them without any chance of climbing out of the bottom three.
The Tamale club would have taken their survival bid to the final day had they taken all three points in Bekwai, but Manu struck to bring 33 years of top-flight football in Ghana’s biggest northern town to an end.
RTU now join BA Stars as the two sides relegated to the division one league and will be hoping that unlike some previous traditional clubs they can rise from relegation as quickly as possible.
They were fierce competitors, especially at home, for many sides in their 33 years, providing many fine players, the two most famous being three-time African Player of the Year Abedi Ayew Pele and Mohammed Gargo.
Ultimately it was Gargo, whose tenure as coach divided opinion sharply in Tamale and beyond, who supervised their demise.
They will now bid farewell to the top-flight with on June 5 when they play Aduana Stars.
Another concern stemming from RTU's relegation will be what is bound to be the under utilization of the Tamale Sports Stadium without top flight football in the region.
