Chidzambwa puts blame on defence

Black Leopards coach Sunday Chidzambwa took a swipe at his defence after their 3-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup Final on Saturday.

Leopards took a lead in the 54th minute courtesy of a Rooi Mahamutsa own goal but lost their momentum from there onwards, as they attempted to protect their score, and conceded two silly goals.

Chidzambwa was not impressed as he believed his side could have done well to avoid 'schoolboy' defending against the high-flying Pirates on the day.

“We were playing the champions – a team with very good bunch of players,” he says.

“We played well first half, they came at us in the second half, I think sometimes in football or life we learn from mistakes. We made two silly mistakes and we were punished that’s how football goes, some of you learn the hard way,” he says.

Sunday also offers no excuse for Pirates' second goal, although some people believed that fair played should have been used when Leopards player Khethokwakhe Masuku was down injured, but Chidzambwa says it was their own mistake.

Thulasizwe Mbuyane headed home from close range, reacting quickest to a looping Andile Jali cross that rebound off the top of the far post after a misjudgment from Leopards keeper Azwinndini Maphaha.

“If I look the way we conceded the second goal our midfield player won the ball, played to a defender, the defender was disposed and the ball was at the back of the net so I think fair play does not come in," the Leopards coach says. "We conceded a very stupid goal, that’s kindergarten football, I won’t accept that we made a mistake."

@mashabela, you dont seem to understand english. The coach is saying there is no need to blame the referee coz it was his(coach) defence's fault that the goal was conceded. I propose that you go for English extra lessons
