Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi revealed that he will meet club Chairman Irvin Khoza to discuss his future with the club.
Lekgwathi’s contract with the newly crowned Nedbank Cup Champions comes to an end next month and having led his club to a treble this season after winning their third Cup on Saturday, the skipper says he is convinced that the club will renew his contract.
There are rumours that the defender could be forced to retire at the end of the season, but he has assured Pirates fans that he will still continue to play next season.
“Now that we are finished with the Nedbank Cup and the League, I will meet the chairman to discuss my future,” he tells KickOff.com after his side beat Black Leopards 3-1 in the final of the Nedbank Cup at Mbombela Stadium.
“I still want to play and my legs still want to continue playing. My heart is with the club and I want to continue playing for Pirates,” he says.
Having had a successful season with the Buccaneers, Lekgwathi has also appealed to the management to keep the same players and coach for next season as they now aim to conquer Africa.
“It’s not going to be easy in Africa is going to be tough but I’m happy that we have a former player like William Okpara who has the experience of playing in Africa.
“But also as players we know each other well now and the issue of the coach, the chairman is the owner of the team, he is the one who must deal with this issue, but I think we must just keep the same team and make sure next season we continue with our good work,” he says.
