Krol – Why Teko left

Ruud Krol has finally broken his silence about the real reason Teko Modise left Orlando Pirates five months ago.
The Dutchman has been mum on the matter until now, but has now revealed Modise was a rotten apple that could have spoilt the rest of the group and had to go.
Modise joined Mamelodi Sundowns in a well-documented move and a lot was said about the decision being about finding a new environment in an attempt to salvage an otherwise flagging career.
"I still believed in Teko as a football player but his behaviour was not good "
- Ruud Krol
Krol, however, has suggested Modise walked because of a bad attitude and Krol seemingly made the right call on the back of a season that brought home three major trophies for Bucs.
"Of course that was a difficult decision, because I still believed in Teko as a football player but his behaviour was not good. I told the management and they took the decision,” Krol said after the Nedbank Cup Final at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday which Pirates won 3-1.
At the time of his departure, Modise had been due to attend a disciplinary hearing after allegedly going Awol on the eve of Pirates’ match against Santos on January 15, but instead Bucs boss Irvin Khoza dropped a bombshell by announcing the midfielder’s move to join Mamelodi Sundowns.
Modise maintained he left in good terms.
"I never had a fall-out with the coach. But we never really spoke about anything besides football. That was just the relationship I had with the coach - if there was a problem, I never realised it existed,” Modise told KickOff.com at the time.
