Chiefs finish with a win

Posted: 21 May 2011 Time: 17:02

A converted penalty two minutes from time by Knowledge Musona saw Kaizer Chiefs beat AmaZulu 2-1 in a Premiership match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was Musona’s 15th goal of the league season which means he will finish as the top goal scorer in the league for the 2010/11 League campaign. Still, his goal and the win for the Amakhosi was not enough to see them lift the league title.

Instead, with Orlando Pirates winning in their league match and Ajax Cape Town drawing theirs, Chiefs finished third in the league and the Buccaneers lifted the league title.

Nonetheless, it was a great performance by the Phefeni Glamour Boys and a match they certainly deserved to win. AmaZulu, on the other hand, play a little negatively and tried to defend for the entire match after taking an early lead through Lehlohonolo Majoro in the seventh minute.

Sibusiso Hadebe provided an accurate pass to see Majoro break behind the Chiefs defence and he made no mistake with a clinical finish past Itumeleng Khune, 1-0

Amakhosi, however, quickly hit back and found an equaliser through Jimmy Tau in the 17th minute. Tau started the move down the right flank and finished it off when Knowledge Musona played him in on goal with a pass across the face of the goal mouth. Tau comfortably side-footed the ball home from a couple yards out, 1-1.

AmaZulu were lucky to get to the half time break without conceding another goal and their luck continued in the second half as Chiefs squandered chance after chance in front of goal.

However, two minutes from time AmaZulu’s luck finally ran out when the referee adjudged Tshweu Mokoro to have handled the ball inside the box. Musona stepped up and coolly converted the spot-kick to give his team the lead, 2-1.

Chiefs picked up all three points, but it was only good enough to see them finish third on the League table.
