Ruud Krol confirms he will be leaving Orlando Pirates when his contract expires next month, but says he hopes to leave the club on a high by winning the Nedbank Cup on May 28.
“Because I’m in the end of my contract and until now I have nothing new from Pirates, so that means I have to leave. My contract is finished, that's what I can say," the coach says, adding that he is happy with what he has achieved with the club.
“I think as a team, as Pirates, playing in three cup finals and playing in the League for the championship till the end, I think then we have did a fantastic job as a team this season and I think we were the most consistent team in the PSL,” he adds.
The Buccaneers had to wait for an extra-time winner against Mpumalanga Black Aces last night, when Tlou Segolela slotted home from Andile Jali’s great individual run, but Aces put up a fight and the match could have gone either way.
Krol heaped praised on Man of the Match Denis Onyango, who kept Amazayoni in the game with some brilliant saves.
“I think we created the chances but of course we must also say the last two games against Santos and today ... if the goalkeeper was not there, and was not playing a fantastic match like today -- the match of his life -- I think we did well but you must also give the credit to goalkeeper today,” he says.
With one hand on the trophy now Krol says he still expects a tough match in the final, considering that the team they will face will have nothing to lose.
“We past difficult opponent in Aces and we are there in the Final and we have to see who is coming to the Final.
"They are a difficult opponent, they have nothing to lose; everybody is expecting Pirates to win and those are always difficult matches."
