Moroka Swallows are waiting to put the finishing touches on a contract with Cameroonian Under-20 midfielder Edgar Salli for next season.
The 18-year-old, who has signed a pre-contract with the Dube Birds, had an excellent Under-20 African Youth Championship in South Africa recently, and was named the Player of the Tournament after his brilliant displays throughout the two-week show.
Salli, who currently turns out for CotonSport, was the young Indomitable Lions’ top scorer, including one in the Final against Nigeria.
Coach Gordon Igesund confirms that Swallows identified two prospective players during the recent tournament.
“One was from Nigeria and other from Cameroon, but obviously we could not complete the deals as we are focusing on the survival,” he tells KickOff.com.
“We can’t sign them now; in fact, we have not even discussed contracts with the players we currently have. Our focus now is to win the next match against Mpumalanga Black Aces and survive the Promotional Play-offs.”
Igesund adds that he is still upbeat about the Birds’ survival, despite his side dropping two points against Bidvest Wits at the weekend.
“Well, we just need to win our game against Aces and not worry about how other teams are doing,” he says.
