Moroka Swallows failed to secure their top-flight status with a 1-1 draw with Bidvest Wits on Saturday.
Siyabonga Nomvete scored from the penalty spot for Swallows, before Thando Mngomeni did the same in the 90th minute.
After fighting it out at the bottom of the log for almost the entire season, Swallows have won their last two matches, against Vasco da Gama and Free State Stars, but this draw means they have not made sure of avoiding the Play-offs.
Swallows had Wits in all sorts of trouble in the first 15 minutes, but could not put the ball in the back of the net.
Boungouta Cisse had a chance in the 14th minute after being set up by Koketso Mmotong but his goalbound shot was well read by Derrick Spencer in Wits’ defence.
Swallows were impressive on their forward forays, with Lefa Tsutsulupa taking charge of midfield.
Credit should also go to Swallows keeper Greg Etafia who did well to deny Sifiso Myeni what could have been Wits’ opening goal in the 23rd minute.
There was no score at half-time.
Swallows looked the more determined side after the break, and Macbeth Sibaya had a goal disallowed in the 50th minute.
Wits’ Ryan Chapman could have also done better after being set up by Sifiso Vilakazi in the 60th minute, but he directed his shot over the bar.
It was Swallows who broke the deadlock in the 68th minute, after Tefu Mashamaite appeared to foul Koketso Mmotong inside the danger area, and Nomvete converted the penalty.
Wits also scored their equalising goal from the penalty spot; converted by Thando Mngomeni in the 90th minute.
