Siem to say farewell at Nedbank Cup Final

Outgoing Premier Soccer League chief executive Kjetil Siem says he is looking forward to a successful Nedbank Cup Final, which, he says, will be his perfect farewell to the local game.

The tournament ends on May 28 at Mbombela Stadium.

“I am leaving the PSL on May 28. The Nedbank Cup will be my final PSL tournament. That is why I look forward to a good Final. I am leaving extremely proud,” Siem says.

The Nedbank Cup is at the semi-final stage, with the two matches to be played on May 14 and 15.

A team from the lower tiers will contest the Final, as two Limpopo sides, First Division Black Leopards and surprise package Baroka FC, play each other on the 15th.

Relegated Mpumalanga Black Aces play Orlando Pirates in the other semi-final.

But Siem says he is not worried about the prospect of a low-key Final.

“It shows South African soccer has improved. While we were expecting the big teams to be in the Final, we need to be prepared for whoever plays in the final match.”

The 50-year-old has been chief executive since 2007, when he replaced Trevor Phillips.

Certainly, where one team is playing history books are written so OPFC will be there to say BYEEE. By the way what have you done that is visible other than what Phillips did?
