Bay United have the edge - Heric

'R1 million can give us the edge' - Heric

As the race for the Coastal First Division league title heats up, Bay United coach Vladislav Heric believes the bonus offered to his players could prove to be the deciding factor.

The Port Elizabeth side are locked in a two-horse struggle with Maritzburg United, who are ironically the club who sacked Heric before he moved to his current team.

With just three games to go the Eastern Cape side lead The Team Of Choice by just one point and making matters more interesting is the fact that the two sides are set to clash in Pietermaritzburg on April 5.

Bay United’s players have been offered an incentive of R1 million to be shared amongst themselves if they make it to the PSL, a carrot which Heric feels could tip the scales in his team’s favour.

”I spoke earlier in the season to the bosses about bonuses for players and I am glad that there is now an additional incentive for the players.

“I always believe that if players work hard they should be rewarded. This side, which is nearly the same squad which struggled in the Mvela league last season, has worked extremely hard and have responded brilliantly to my methods, they deserve any bonuses that come their way,” Heric tells KickOff.com.

Bay United’s push for the title has been spearheaded mainly by former Manning Rangers striker Linos Chalwe, who has eight goals to his credit.

Maritzburg’s Fadlu Davids leads the goal-scoring lists in the Costal Stream with nine goals, while in the Inland Stream Garankuwa United’s Reason Chiloane is setting the pace with 11 goals.

There is a break from First Division action this weekend due to the Nedbank Cup.
