African Youth Championship nears completion with an exciting final

Shoot-out controversy at AYC semis

It's Nigeria v Cameroon in the Final of the African Youth Championship at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday after controversy-packed semi-final action in Soweto yesterday. 

The Flying Eagles beat Mali 2-0 in their semi-final while Cameroon needed penalties to overcome Egypt, after their match ended 0-0 after extra-time. 
 
There was controversy during the shoot-out when two of Cameroon's penalties, which had been saved, were ordered to be re-taken and were then converted. 
 
Uche Nwofor and Stanley Okoro scored Nigeria's goals against Mali. 
 
There was also controversy around the Nigerian opener - with several Mali players protesting that there had been a hand-ball in the build-up. 
 
Mali will play Egypt in the third-place play-off, also on Sunday. 
 
All four semi-finalists had already qualified for the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia later this year and details of the draw were announced earlier. 
 
Egypt will play the opening match of the tournament against Brazil, and will then take on Austria and Panama in Group E.
 
Nigeria will play Guatemala, Croatia and Saudi Arabia in Group D. 
 
Mali are in Group A with the hosts, Colombia plus South Korea and France and Cameroon are in Group B along with Portugal, Uruguay and the as yet undecided champions of Oceania.

I think the referee was unfair to Egypt. One of those penalties should have been allowed to stay. Or did he disallow it because of the presence of Hayatou?

Honestly, it was a show of shame when i saw the referee disqualify the two penalties saved by the egyptian goalkeeper which gave the cameroonians the final match showdown against nigeria. Well, i just hope they don't try that against nigeria in the final.

can you see the way this camerounian decking some blows on the nigerian?. These guys ( camerounians ) are too physical in their play. ppl say its roburst style but i disagree. All they do is to hack & jack opponents in the field of play.
There is provision for combat sports like boxing , wrestling judo & co.

but sometimes i wonder why will a child be born in Europe father by an African and the father cannot in any way convince such a child to visit he/her fatherland it amuse me allot ,this kids grow up with no knowledge about African what a shame to the parent only to be beg or try to be educated about is father land ,just because he is scared of what ,,that beat my little imagination allot abeg mak i go drink beer joo dis one no be news

African soccer is resticted to just "junior" dominance in Africa and the world. They couldn't have done it without overaged players.

The South Americans, Europe and now Asia are doing great in the senior level because their players are groomed "earlier" with their right age. What we have failed to realize is that junior World Cup (U-17 & 20) isn't highly regarded outside Africa. While we are striving to seek its glory by actually cheating with overaged players, South America and Europe are having their REAL U-17 and 20 graduate to a successful senior pro. soccer player.

Until all African countries stop using players looking like they are actually bewteen 25 to 30 years old for an U-20 tournament, we will continue to have few or no quality players at the senior level. It's just that simple.
