Dutch club stop Ahmed Musa

Posted: 2011-04-27 08:03

Star striker Ahmed Musa will not feature for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in Thursday’s semi-final of the African Youth Championship after his Dutch club turned down a request from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for his release.

“It is sad to report that VVV Venlo have turned down our requests and pleas for Ahmed to play for us against Mali on Thursday,” discloses NFF official Nasir Jibrin.

“We were very hopeful that they will let him come down and we even purchased his ticket, only for the club to turn around and reject our proposal to have the player for only the semi-final against Mali.”

The player was slated to fly out Tuesday night and arrive Johannesburg the following day for the semi-final on Thursday. He would then depart South Africa hours after the match.

Jibrin says the player is very bitter that he will not return to be able South Africa to help the team win a sixth AYC title.

The board of VVV met Tuesday evening to discuss whether or not to release Musa for the AYC.

A top official hinted that at a point in time the Dutch club requested that two of their officials accompany the 18-year-old striker to and from South Africa.

The former Kano Pillars star was the man of the match when Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-1 in their opening group match of the AYC.

VVV Venlo are battling against dropping from the Dutch top-flight and this weekend host Feyenoord in a must-win match, before they play their last game of the season away from home.

They are only seperated from bottom team by three points with the team eventually at the foot of the table being demoted to the lower league, while the second from bottom feature in a relegation/promotion play-off.

I really need to get this clear, if Ahmed Musa was not with this team during the pre-tournament tours where we heard them beating and drawing teams then why should Obuh be jittery because he does not have Musa in his team. Nobody picked his final players for him; he did that by himself so he should know how he is going to win by himself without Ahmed Musa. This is where his coaching acumen comes into play. The Flying Eagles spent more time outside Nigeria on foreign tours and played so many friendlies so he should know the capability of his players.
For your information, VVV Venlo is lying 2nd bottom of the Dutch league and might be relegated so holding on to Ahmed Musa when the league is closing to me doesn’t make sense. Though it makes sense to be appreciated by your club but with or without Ahmed Musa VVV Venlo is still going to be relegated.
@ cosmiradogh, you are very much welcome. We discuss football related matters in this forum and rub minds on how to move Naija football forward in reaction to comments posted or issues of the day. @Chum and Throw in.thanks a lot for welcoming me in to the forum .i will also do my part and share my idea for the best interest of our great nation Nigeria.well i have been living in Ghana now for the past 5 years and i know how Ghanians treat Nigerians here.well the forum is strictly for football and not to share racist and tribal words.i am looking for the clash between our dream team and Black Metors of Ghana in the all Africa games.the last time Nigeria national team visited Ghana was when Siasia came to make us proud by earning the draw we needed to boost our chance for qualifying for bejing Olympic .

I am pretty surprised that the NFF never learns any lesson. I blame Coach Obuh for relying so much on established pro-league players for an age grade competition. We have the talents in this country that can be used to represent us at that level. It is our folly that made us to loose 2 players before the tournament began and to rely on a player like Ahmed Musa who is an established regular with the Super Eagles. When are we going to begin to discover new players? The other day Eguavoen was struggling to recall players from the SE to the Under 23 team. He managed to beat E-Guinea 5 nil in Benin and won 4 -1 away only to suffer a draw with the Liberians. The reason is that Eguavoen is also not an age grade coach. Give him the best players and he will still fail!

Pls does anyone know the nig vs mali kickoff time 2mrw?there r lots of conflicting times online..nig time or gmt pls

Izu: 2011-04-27 11:33

So even to win semifinal how much more final you have to promise them reward and also need an ahmed Musa. With all the red lights before the begining of the tournament, why did we not find a replacement for him when he was not even in the training tour instead of wasting time asking for a joel Obi and ahmed Musa. Same thing with Eguavoen looking for a chibuzo okonkwo to be in U23 as well as other super eagles stars. How i wish Samson siasia enjoyed all this when he coached the U20 and the olympic team. They snuffed the life out of him by not providing money even for training that he had to go to public to beg and he still got to the finals and even won the AYC U20. He prosecuted the U20 with faces that were not established in the eagles who later made their mark. I do hope he is given all the money for the super eagles to prepare them to be world beaters. Siasia is simply the best hands down.

Billion : 2011-04-27 12:38

This guy Ahmed Musa is obviously within 28-30 age bracket. When are we going to stop cheating? It's even annoying relying on an 'old man' rather than a younger agile fellow. When will our football grow? How many 2005 U20 Siasia boys are still playing today? It pains my heart!

The Man : 2011-04-27 12:48

@carla, is this another drama III? Two wks ago it was chioma man vs Chioma woman, last week it was the battle of the billions, mobile billion vs original billion and this week it is the battle of the sarahs, sarah man vs sarah woman?

I kn tht Musa is a gud player but Obuh will still win the tittle up nija

Mr Kpim: 2011-04-27 13:05

Instead of concentrating on strategy of using the available players to defeat the agile malians, NFF is busy pursuing another mallam...next you know, he will kick another player off the line and then will be sent off...I don't know why all these mallams are playin football in naija...is football some kinda quota system? ridiculous!

To Hell With Ghana!: 2011-04-27 13:18

Obuh, please no excuses o.... you have to win this match if you dont want trouble and curses like was rained on Shuaibu Amodu. If you fail, you may end up running or being a consultant to your state's Priary School board o... I don talk my own.

@ Caria: You have started. Since yesterday you have been posting the same stuff. You will soon be exposed. Are you the first person to claim to be of mixed race? whats the big deal? Obama's fater is from Kenya and his mother from USA and the world didnt fall, so why do you think we care if your father is from Nigeria and mother from Spain? Take time o....

Segun: 2011-04-27 13:20

@Billion, it takes a miracle to get all players in the youth team into the senior team. It does not happen even in countries that will claim that they are free of age cheating. Nsofor, Obi, Obasi, Adefemi, Adeleye, Apam were part of the 2005 team. It is six years ago now. If we can get six years service out of the guys, it is something. And more could have graduated but they were not given the chance. You simply hate anything Nigeria, admit it.
Mr Kpim, that is simply not fair. Ahmed Musa entered the national team set up on merit and not quota system. A record holder in the national league cannot be said not to have paid his dues. I am from the south west but we overrate ourselves occasionally. That is evident in the last election when we shouted change change change and the 'most educated' region as we call ourselves did not go with change but preferred the status quo. Let's seek peace instead of being ethnocentric and egocentric.

@ fake billion or what ever you call your self i think our forumites here is doing a good job by ignoring your hilarions comments and i have been reading your commenst with my phone for the past weeks but let me remind you that in football no body uses his true age although some players bring down their age too much that it reflect for the world to see but mostly its not their fault bcos most of them went through a hell before they reach this stage and as you can see once a player got to his 30s teams will not give him a long contract and you know this is their occupation so if they bring down their age in other to prolong their playing career what is got to do with you? why are you taking medication for another person`s sickness? why can`t you be happy for once in you life? didn`t you know here is a pubic site? respect your self and act like a civilize person. i too i am a football and if i cheat with 6 or 5years in other to get a contract with clubs or get agent that will help me is none of your business. if you are bitterly feel bad about their age then i will help you pass it to the nff just compose your letter for them and express your concern about the so called age cheat and send it to me via my email petobi05@yahoo.com and i will help you forward it to the nff so that you will stop this your madness.
one love Nigeria and its good people.

Let me tell u, siasia is and ever will be d most successful age grade football coach in nigeria(until his record is broken)got to d U20 & olympics final with virtually almost d same set of players, majority of whom are in SE today as rightly pointed out by @segun not 4geting Taye Taiwo who was also in d squad. U sure u are a nigerian, billion(topic 4 another day). @carla pls leave sarah alone,i think u shld appreciate d fact that we av a female like sarah in KON(always consistent)and u feel attacking her brings u contemptment. U shld be ashamed of ur life, almost everyone on KON appreciate sarah, giving her word of encouragement,by ur actions-carla-u paint d picture of someone who love attacking d weaker ***(posting the same comment abt sarah since yesterday,u pervert). Austin: 2011-04-27 17:44

Why are we attacking @Billion for stating the obvious. Coach Obuh paraded some players with questionable biodata, and those that shouted were said to be unpatriotic. Where is Chukwudi now? From the picture above I doubt that Musa is less than 25. Period. But for now, let's not go there. I wish nigeria and the team well.

Chibuzz: 2011-04-27 18:43

@Austin birds of the same feather flock together, U are not sane upstairs what buisness has Chukwudi got to do with this discussion and did u see the other teams paraded by other African countries? U choose to play the spy who loves Nija and u are not. Shame on u haters of Nija football and progressive Nija youths plying their trade in the round leather game.
Check ur self before u check others, facial expression is not used to denote age if so some players are bald even at 17yrs of sge why do`nt u say they are 30yrs. infact macheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew! 4 u, Agbaya!

I don’t understand your logic here. Somebody has been attacking and saying bad things about your country for a long time and you’re asking what is wrong with that? People never cease to amaze.
Would you just stand by and watch while somebody beats up your child because the child said something wrong? Would you not come to your child’s aid regardless???

@Toluwase, thanks for the groups for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011. We are in the easiest group but the only problem is NFF, they shd please give Mr. Obuh a free hand to select the players he knows that its going to ok for under 20 world 2011. Look at what is going on in South Africa U-20 nations cup and we should compare the set of F/E team to 2009 U-17 team. Hopefully, Cameroon,Egypt
and Mali will make africa proud too.
God bless Nigeria!!!

@Trust, unless you have watched Croatia,Saudi Arabia and Guatemala play, i do not agree that group is the weakest. Lets not judge them by their country names rather by the quality of players they would bring to the tournment.

These countries would be watching the ungoing AYC and would be think that Flying Eagles is nothing to write home about because the boys are not showing championship form.

I pray that we win AYC and go to the world cup as the African champions atleast that would enhance our reputation and give them more impetus to do well at the world cup. UP Flying Eagles
