Black Leopards beat BTX Liverpool in Nedbank Cup

Posted: 10 April 2011 Time: 17:38

Black Leopards are through to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals after defeating BTX Liverpool 3-1 at Griffon Stadium in Welkom on Sunday afternoon.

Rodney Ramagalela and Dingane Masanabo (brace) sent Leopards 3-0 up, before Mafanyane Mokitimni pulled one back for Liverpool.

Leopards completely dictated terms in the first half, controlling the midfield battle and dominating the possession stakes, but the Welkom side found their footing as the match progressed, and created some good opportunities, but were let down by poor decision-making in front of goal.

Despite their early dominance Leopards were unable to find the back of the net with Rodney Ramagalela and Dingane Masanabo failing to score from good positions early on.

The former saw his effort hit the crossbar, while the latter was denied by Liverpool’s goalkeeper Joseph Ramokone, who was outstanding between the posts.

In the 25th minute, however, when Ramagalela connected with a cross from the right channel by Mongezi Bobe to head the ball home from six yards out to make it 1-0.

The ever-hardworking Masanabo never stopped knocking on Liverpool’s door and he was finally rewarded when Liverpool’s defenders failed to clear their lines.

The ball fell into his path on the edge of the box and he chipped it over the keeper and into an empty net to take Leopards 2-0 up.

Leopards piled more pressure on their opponents in the second half, however, they could not penetrate the Second Division side’s rock-solid defence, spearheaded by Pule Khosieapula.

Liverpool had an excellent chance to half the deficit when substitute Petrus Chandu forced Azwinndini Mpahaha into a great save.

Masanabo who found the back of the net again, in the 74th minute, receiving a neat pass from his teammate in the box, and slotting the ball home to make it 3-0 to Leopards.

Mafanyane Mokitimni pulled a goal back for Liverpool six minutes later, but, it was too little too late.

Mr Editor was Edgar Manaka on the Leopards team for the Nedbank last 16 game against BTY Liverpool?
Was Edgar Manaka registration with PSL cancelled?
Otherwise, well done to Black Leopards FC for advancing to the last 8 of Nedbank Cup.
I'm happy that Limpopo is represented by two Clubs at this round of the Nedbank Cup. I also hope that the two Limpopo Clubs avoid each other at this stage and get a home match draw as well avoid the two South African giants in Chiefs and Pirates. If my hopes can come true maybe we may get a double header from Leopards and Baroka once more.
