A CAF official has confirmed that four Egyptian referees claim DR Congo side TP Mazembe tried to bribe them, and later threatened their lives when they refused to accept a payment of R75 000 before a match involving Tanzanian club Simba two weeks ago. 

According to a story on Ahramonline, the officials for the African Champions League round of 32 match reported the incident to the CAF.
 
"Egyptian referees Yasser Abdel-Raouf, Ayman Deguesh, Tamer Salah and Fahim Omar submitted a report to the CAF informing them that they were offered a negotiable $10,000 bribe to ease TP Mazembe's mission against Simba," a CAF official stated.
 
After the Egyptian referees firmly rejected the corrupt deal, they were threatened with death if they reported it, and so the referees couldn't announce the offer until they had returned to Cairo. 
 
TP Mazembe, the two-time African Champions League winner and the title holders, won the match 3-1.
 
Simba's chairman Ismail Aden Rage says in a report carried by Goal.com that he was shocked by the allegations and said that they played the match under protest.
 
He said his club have already written to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), requesting them to communicate with the CAF, so that an investigation into the matter is conducted immediately.
 
Article 24 of the CAF Champions League regulations stipulates that if CAF is informed, no matter what the source may be, that a fraud infringing the sporting morality was committed by one of the teams, an enquiry shall be undertaken.
 
In that case that the assertion is proved, the guilty team can face suspension of up to three years from all CAF competitions.

black Africa for u, no wonder they (upper Africa) have been dominating the ACL this much, Southern Africa teams sure thing they dont have that financial muscle to bribe the refs, nxa!

i AGREE with u rite ther my man.If this team was bribing officials then how cum they play that good.They reached the club world cup thru hard work and lost to a betta Milan side.This r allegations to bring otha pple down.

This is pure nonsense a jealousy from the egyptians. Mazembe has proven that it can compete with the best. So why only now they will try to bribe officials. Remember the treatement they received in the final last year. Is it a case of bribery again. Oh Mazembe, Oh Mazembe.....

I think these Egyptians are lying through their teeth, taking nothing away from Tanzanians but I think Mazembe is far better tha them to offer bribes. This are the signs of a dying horse as you can see their national team, Al Ahly and Zamalek are no longer the power houses of African football.
