Spain beckons for Xulu

Siyanda Xulu could be on his way to Atletico Madrid

Posted: 31 March 2011 Time: 7:28 am

Mamelodi Sundowns will definitely not stand in Siyanda Xulu's way during the next transfer window period when he attempts to impress European teams.

Xulu, who has already been invited by English Premiership side Arsenal as well as Spanish giants Barcelona where he had trials, has now attracted interest from Atletico Madrid who are keen to have a look at him next season.   KickOff.com has been informed that the club will definitely allow the defender to go at the end of the season and will not stand in his way, like they did with striker Katlego Mphela.   Xulu's business manager Paul Michel declined to deny or confirm anything but referred all queries to Downs.   "I'm not in a position to say anything now. You can phone Sundowns and they will tell you what's happening."   Downs spokesperson Alex Shakoane says they would only confirm when everything is in place, but at the moment he would not say anything.   "I can't confirm speculation; I can only confirm once everything is done and at the moment there is nothing," he says.   However, a source close to the club reveals to KickOff.com that Downs are prepared to sell their player during the off season.

At least he's not being call to trail like SAFAs footballer of the year was at Forest- don't forget "FAILED" too.
Xulu has the potential to succeed overseas- he's a good centre back who can also push forward to attacking positions from time to time. i'd put him in the same class as Abidal of Barcelona- of course our own still has a few things to learn but he can only get better and better with time- his age allows him to.
Although Sangweni didn't play in the s.a. game- it's still remains an insult to him ahead of Xulu.
Imagine a Bafana side in 2014 with Xulu and Khumalo (once he start playing) at the back, Serero, Myeni, Majoro, Keet, Zwane among others playing for the country of course with more than 50 caps to their names respectively.
Sundowns seems to be the hunting ground of the spanish team- that's good for our players at development as this might come as a motivation to them. but it's time that the senior team stopped buying all these useless players who never make any impact. The way the team is managed- one would swear that Sundowns does not have a development team.

I can't help but wonder where and how @dikotsi saw Shakoane 'not knowing even when he contradicts himself' in this particular article. If there is no concrete offer on the table, what is Shakoane supposed to say? Agree or disagree just to please people who have warped ideas? As for Sundowns being a vice-grip and not letting players go, people are either cynical or suffer from selective amnesia. Who messes up Gaxa's transfer? Was the team obliged to release Mphela after he had just signed an extension, and the offer on the table was not what the team considered worthwhile? People need to educate themselves with FACTS and stop all this speculative and vindictive nonsense that is driven by either sheer hatred or petty jealousy.

I hope it works out for the boy, he thouroghly deserves it. pity our national tea coaches seem not to realise his potential, Good luck Siya.

Most impressive is the fact that Atletico Madrid is actually rumoured to have tabled a R10 000 000 offer straight deal, no trials or anything like that. anyway, the boy has really shown his potential by being amongst the top 100 young talented players in the globe!
