Cosmos continue to dominate

National First Division Inland Stream top dogs Jomo Cosmos require just one point from a possible nine to reach the Promotional Play-offs after beating a 10-man FC AK 2-1 at the weekend.
The race for the all-important second spot in the Inland Stream looks like it will go down to the wire as both Black Leopards and University of Pretoria scored convincing wins over Witbank Spurs and Batau FC, respectively.
Carara Kicks held Coastal leaders Bay United to a goalless draw at Goble Park, which leaves Umlilo six points ahead of Thanda Royal Zulu who lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers.
Norman Smith and Souleymane Diabate ensured Ezenkosi’s first half dominance with good finishes at Eldorado Park, but FC AK fought their way back into the match during the second period when the visitors took their foot off the gas.
And despite losing Martin Moonsamy to a red card, AK pulled a goal back through brilliant individual work from Andries Mosehle, who lost his left arm in a car accident as a baby in 1992.
Leopards disposed of Spurs 2-1 and with Tuks hammering Batau 4-2 in Pretoria, Senyane Mphethi’s outfit now needs a miracle to avoid relegation.
In fact, after Thokozani Sekotlong, Tebogo Monyai, Dennis Omino and an own-goal damaged their recent resurge, Batau needs to win all three remaining matches, while also hoping that United, who lost 2-0 at home to fellow strugglers Dynamos on Saturday, don’t pick up any further points!
In the Coastal Stream, Thanda lost further ground in their hunt for a Play-off spot after an own goal at Buffalo City, and with veteran striker Bulelani Matross again on target for African Warriors, this time against Nathi Lions, Jabu Khumalo’s team – four points adrift – can still qualify, as can Kicks who share 26 points with Warriors.
Last month, after bagging a brace against his former club Hanover Park, Matross called chairman Rieduwaan Anthony to ‘apologise’, but his ex-boss said, "just do me a favour, please score against Nathi".
That is exactly what he did, however, Hanover look dead and buried following their 3-0 loss to local rivals FC Cape Town in Wynberg on Sunday.
