Esrom Nyandoro dropped

Posted: 2011-03-12 09:49

Zimbabwe captain Esrom Nyandoro has been dropped from his country’s squad for their upcoming African Nations Cup qualifier away in Mali at the end of the month.

Newly appointed coach Norman Mapeza has instead handed a first call-up to attacking midfielder Khama Billiat, who in his first season of professional football has helped Ajax Cape Town to near the top of the Absa Premiership League standings.

Billiat is one seven South African-based players in the squad for the trip to Bamako where Zimbabwe seek to gain a win in the group for the first time.

The squad also includes players based in Austria, Cyprus, France and England.

Mapeza was appointed last month to take charge of the side for a third time. Zimbabwe drew with Liberia and the Cape Verde Islands in their first two qualifiers.

Squad:
Goalkeepers: Washington Arubi (Dynamos), Tapuwa Kapini (Platinum Stars, South Africa), Edmore Sibanda
(CAPS United)

Defenders: Qadr Amin (Gunners FC), Onismor Bhasera (Plymouth Argyle, England), Noel Kaseke (Omonia Nicosia, Cyprus), Gilbert Mapemba (CAPS United), Method Mwanjali (Mamelodi Sundowns, South Africa), Thomas Sweswe (Kaizer Chiefs, South Africa), Guthrie Zhokinyi (Dynamos)

Midfielders: Khama Billiat (Ajax Cape Town, South Africa), Archford Gutu (Dynamos), Ovidy Karuru (US Boulogne-sur-Mer, France), Justice Majabvi (LASK Linz, Austria), Benjamin Marere, Denver Mukamba (both Dynamos), Bhekimpilo Ncube (FC Platinum), Tinashe Nengomasha (Kaizer Chiefs, South Africa), Vusa Nyoni (Germinaal Beerschot, Belgium)

Forwards: Norman Maroto (FC Platinum), Nyasha Mushekwi (Mamelodi Sundowns, South Africa), Knowledge Musona (Kaizer Chiefs, South Africa), Edward Sadomba (Al Hilal, Sudan).

I wish he can play tonight, he is the reason we beat Sundowns 2-1, 2-1 this season, he and Teko will do us a big favour if they play!

Is this an end to a brilliant era? Damn I used to fear u when playing against OPFC. It is going to be a tough mission to collect maximum points away to Mali. Good luck to all the Southern African teams.

I am still wondering why Zimbabwe is still battling in the continent. They have brilliant talent in the squad. Even better that us. In all department except in the goal keeping department.

hope you dont want to bring Musunu and old Nengomashe into the picture, if you think Zim is better than SA becuase of Mosona, then we have a big problem, when last did Mosona score a goal? Nengomashe's combination with Nyandoro can not win you a match agains Aces, Mpumalanga!
