Orlando Pirates beat Maritzburg United

Orlando Pirates beat Maritzburg United 3-1 thanks to two goals late in the game on Wednesday night.
In a well engineered victory, Pirates played with passion, confidently controlled the game and ran of the well deserved winners.
It was Ndumiso Mabena who opened the scoring for Pirates in the 36th minute, before Tlou Segolela and Isaac Chansa scored the second and third goals late in the second half.
Maritzburg United got their goal from Rudolph Bester in the 49th minute.
Playing better and more effective soccer than their opposition, Pirates took the offensive from the first whistle. They were on top throughout the match.
Maritzburg United’s keeper Shu-Aib Walters pulled off a class save from Katlego Mashego’s free-kick in the 12th minute, and in the 14th minute Ndumiso Mabena was close with a screamer that flew over the bar.
Ultimately, Pirates’ efforts were rewarded when Ndumiso Mabeba connected with Katlego Mashego’s corner kick in the 36th minute beating keeper Shu-Aib Walters.
The first half ended 1-0 to Pirates and their faithful were getting anxious at the prospect of not scoring enough goals.
After combining with Gert Schalkwyk, Sibisi laid the ball to Rudolph Bester who easily beat Senzo Meyiwa with a tap in to put his side on level terms in the 49th minute.
Tlou Segolela put the stadium into frenzy with a goal in the 87th minute before setting up Issac Chansa in the 91st minute to put the game beyond Maritzburg United’s reach, Pirates winning 3-1.
Pirates are now three point clear of second placed Ajax Cape Town at the top of the log.
