AmaZulu extended their unbeaten run in the League to six when they played to a 0-0 draw with SuperSport United at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday evening.
The first half was a game of missed opportunities for United as they had loads of possession, but failed to take their chances.
AmaZulu, on the other hand, were mere spectators in the first 45 minutes and besides from a chance at the end of the half did not create any danger for Rowen Fernandez.
The main culprit for United was Kermit Erasmus, who had a night he would rather forget. His first chance on goal came in the eighth minute when he let fly with a powerful shot from about 20-yards out which just skimmed the upright.
Then in the 20th minute he should really have found the back of the net when his header from six yards out went over the crossbar.
Two minutes later and Erasmus tested the AmaZulu keeper from 12-yards out. He latched onto a good passing movement and pulled the best out of Mbongeni Mzimela, who did magnificently diving to his right to make a fingertip save.
Then AmaZulu’s solitary chance. Lehlohonolo Majoro went on a run which saw him beating a couple of defenders before firing a shot goalwards from about 12-yards out that beat Fernandez, but was cleared off the line by Morgan Gould.
The second half saw United pick up where they left off: creating opportunities in front of goal, but failing to take the chances.
Then in the 56th minute Hunt must have thought his side would break the deadlock when SuperSport were awarded a penalty for a handball inside the box. Erasmus stepped up looking to atone for his earlier misses, but instead saw his effort saved.
After the missed penalty the wind seemed to exit from the sails of United. For AmaZulu, they did not create any real chances in the second half.
The match finished 0-0 and SuperSport will be bitterly disappointed with their performance while AmaZulu extended their unbeaten run to six.
