Collins Mbesuma on target for Zambia

Posted: 11 February 2011 Time: 14:41

Collins Mbesuma kept up his recent PSL goal-scoring form in midweek to mark a successful return to the Zambian national side after more than a year on the sidelines.

He was one of four players with South African connections who all netted in runaway 4-0 win over Swaziland in Manzini.   There was also a goal for Clifford Mulenga of Bloemfontein Celtic, as he also marked a return after a lengthy hiatus.   Former Moroka Swallows and SuperSport United striker James Chamanga opened the scoring and Zambia were 1-0 up at half-time. Chris Katongo, the former goal ace from Jomo Cosmos scored the third goal between Mbesuma and Mulenga.   Zambia also included Kennedy Mweene of Free State Stars in goal; Kampamba Chintu of BidVest Wits and Joseph Musonda of Lamontville Golden Arrows in defence and Orlando Pirates’ Isaac Chansa in midfield.   Platinum Stars wingback Miro blasted home a long range equaliser for hosts Mozambique after Botswana had taken the lead when Phenyo Mongala set up the first goal in their 1-1 draw.   Mozambique’s winger Dominquez, better known in South Africa as Elias Pelembe, was the star of the afternoon but found himself thwarted by the Botswana defence, which had Bay United’s Modiri Marumo in goal.   Botswana also included Boitumelo Mafoko of Santos, Mogogi Gabonamong of SuperSport United and Jerome Ramatlhakwane, recently signed with Vasco da Gama, in the starting line-up.   Tangeni Shipahu (AmaZulu), Rudolph Bester (Maritzburg United) and Henrico Botes of Platinum Stars all lined up for Namibia in Windhoek but they lost 2-1 to Malawi.   Namibia led before Peter Wadabwa of Thanda Royal Zulu equalised and Bernard Harawa of Black Leopards got the winner.   Malawi also had Moses Chavula (Nathi Lions), Peter Mponda (Santos), Robert Ngambu (Black Leopards), Chiukepo Msowoya (Orlando Pirates) and Joseph Kamwendo of Vasco da Gama in their line-up.
