Captain of the Egyptian 2008 African Nations Cup champions, Ahmed Hassan, has revealed that a portion of the winning bonus received by the team for winning the tournament will be given to charities.

In an interview with filgoal.com, the Anderlecht FC of Belgium midfielder disclosed that the Egyptian squad members collectively agreed on helping a Cancer Hospital in Egypt.

“We are hoping to add something to our society, so we all felt that we should do it for the people not for any other purpose,” he told the website.

He also said that he would be joining Mohamed Abou-Treika, Mohammed Shawky and Mohammed Zidan in a separate charitable activity.

He also used the opportunity to urge all Egyptian fans to come out en-masse and support the team when they line up against South American giants Argentina at the end of this month in a friendly encounter in Cairo.
