Malawi football president Walter Nyamilandu says the door is not completely shut for South Africa-based players, who were slapped with indefinite suspensions from Flames by coach Steve Constantine for alleged indiscipline.
Constantine suspended Black Leopards’ winger Fischer Kondowe and Orlando Pirates’ struggling midfielder Joseph Kamwendo from national duties after the two were reported to have sneaked out of camp ahead of a formality Africa Nations Cup qualifying match against Zimbabwe last year.
The two professionals, alongside Silver Strikers’ budding defender Ndaziona Chilemba, are said to have sneaked out of camp before and after Zimbabwe’s game which the Flames miserably lost 1-3.
The Briton mentor renowned for his strict measures did not hesitate but slapped the trio with indefinite suspension.
Nyamilandu said Fam was willing to intervene in the matter as long as the suspended players showed remorse.
“At this point in time the players are not showing any remorse,” Nyamilandu said. “We can only come in to meditate only if the players are ready show that they are regretting their action.”
He said the Flames cannot manage to compromise disciplinary issues during this time when the team is under going rebuilding exercise.
“We need to maintain discipline if our rebuilding exercise is to prove worthwhile,” he said.
The president also confessed that the South Africa-based pair is one of Malawi’s most important players but they need to be disciplined so that they should effectively produce good results for the Flames.
However, Constantine is on record having said as long as he was coach, the suspended players would not be allowed to be in his team.
The coach’s recent show of his no nonsense attitude to indiscipline was manifested this week when he sent his newly-appointed assistant coach Thom Mkorongo. Back at the weekend.
The Ntcheu-based Sharma FC coach is reported to have left camp without notifying his boss.
Sources said Mkorongo left camp after on notifying Constantine’s other subordinates, coach Alex Masanjala and team manager Stuart Mbolembole, who are reported to have not informed Constantine before allowing Mkorongo to leave.
Mkorongo’s sudden axing from camp barely a week after reporting for duties brings the total number of casualties of similar offences to six.
Constantine also sent back MTL Wanderers defender Bernard Kalilani, Black Pool defender Mike Kaziputa, Joseph Banda, and two others for reporting late for training Sunday last week.
Escom United twin strikers Chiukepo Msowoya and Noel Mkandawire have found themselves in Constantine’s black book after snubbing the call up due to different reasons they never communicated with the coach.
Chiukepo traveled to South Africa last week to attend month long trials at Black Leopards while Mkandawire did not give reasons for his move.
Both players face possible exclusion from the squad after failing to notify the coach of their plans.
