The actual first shot on goal only came in the 25th minute when Jose Parreira let fly from 20-yards out, but his shot was wayward and slid past the post.
Later in the half Anthony Laffor also let loose with a thunderbolt from 25-yards out, but much like his teammate, his attempt on goal went wide of the target.
In the 39th minute Lyle Lakay whipped in a corner and Morgan Gould rose to head the ball, but his attempt just skimmed the wrong side of the upright from 12-yards out.
The second half was more of the same with SuperSport controlling the possession stakes, but unable to create goal scoring opportunities. For Free state they were mere spectators in the second 45 minutes.
Bradley Carnell should really have opened the scoring in the 60th minute when he found himself with the ball 12-yards out from goal.
With no pressure on him he skied his shot over the crossbar.
Thereafter, the introduction of Kermit Erasmus in the 62nd minute seemed to provide some life to the United team. He also came close to finding the game’s only goal when he struck the woodwork five minutes from time with a 12-yard shot.
In the end the game finished as a disappointing goalless draw, which doesn’t really benefit any team.
