Stanton Lewis joined Kaizer Chiefs over bust up with Foppe De Haan

Posted: 18 January 2011 Time: 10:15

Stanton Lewis reveals that his decision to leave Ajax Cape Town to join Kaizer Chiefs on loan was motivated by his poor relationship with Ajax coach Foppe De Haan.

'Stiga' put pen to paper on a six-month loan deal and says he doesn't intend to return to the Urban Warriors when the loan deal expires. According to Lewis, he endured a torrid time, especially this season, after De Haan hauled him over the coals for his goal celebrations last season. In fact, Lewis believes his fallout with De Haan led to his lack of game time this season.   He started one League game and another in the Telkom Knockout and came off the bench six times this season for Ajax. He failed to score.   "I had some hiccups with the current coach Foppe De Haan. I made a few bad choices in the way I celebrated my goals last season, which he didn't like and that led to a clash of personalities. And from there I was never brought back in the starting line-up," reveals the 23-year-old.   Lewis, however, refuses to dwell on the celebrations that got him in hot water, saying "you can go back and watch the tapes and see if you find something". _quote  His four goals for Ajax last season came via a brace against Wings United in a last 32 Nedbank Cup match on 18 April 2010 and the other two were against Golden Arrows in the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout on 28 March 2010 and in the semifinal of the same cup against another Durban side AmaZulu on 3 April 2010.   "It was about emotion and what he said to me in the dressing room. Well, I went out and did the job and celebrated the way I did. Obviously I was wrong to do that but it was just that at that time it was just my emotions taking over. I did something silly and I asked for forgiveness," he says.     Asked whether he would be comfortable rejoining Ajax if things don't work out at Chiefs, Lewis says he is confident he will do enough to earn a permanent deal in Naturena.   "No, I haven't thought about that. I have positive thinking and if Chiefs don't sign me that will be my own fault. I will make sure I work hard and do everything in my power to stay here. I don't have negative thoughts in my mind at all," he says.   Meanwhile, Ajax are irked by Lewis' comments on De Haan, warning him in a Business Day article today not to burn his bridges. Ajax, through their PRO Thabiso 'Shooz' Mekuto, also question Lewis' commitment at training, which flies in the face of the latter's promise to work hard and earn a permanent deal at Chiefs.   "Lewis had an attitude with the coaches and their biggest problem was that he never put in the required effort at training. He always trained at half the pace of all the other players and that is why he never played. So this whole thing about his goal celebrations remains a mystery," Mekuto is quoted saying.

These young boy should be careful of his mouth if he want to be successful in soccer. He should remember he is still an Ajax player and any comment he makes against them could lend him in hot water. At Nappyrena he will be hailed as a hero though I understand. Be careful sonny I listened to your interview on SSB yesterday.

The faggots from Chiefs have claimed to be highly professionals without any flaws in this game yet this guy in NOT even included in their first team list in their website. They said KICKOFF.COM can take a leaf out of their website in terms of updating their website but it is not

Kickoff must stop behaving like Wiki-leaks. There was a media day at Naturena yesterday. Why are they publishing his interview in batches now? There was a story about him yesterday, today you guys (TTM) releases another batch of his interview. Do you want to portray Lewis as a chatterbox? The young man revealed the story once in the interview yesterday. Get us different news now.

Who the hell is this useless player? I though Chiefs were going to sign Serero, money problems?

It is also very interesting that this worthless and stupid player feels at home at Chiefs and does not see himself returning to Ajax because he will do well amongst the most average players in the PSL. This confirms our belief that Chiefs is overrated.

The only thing I know is that most of the players who don’t want to listen to their coaches don’t succeed in football

This thing is talking too much before even kicking the ball at the farm. He is forgetting that chops are broke they won't have money to buy him and he'll have to go back to Ajax.

I see a younger version of Cowrrealba in Lewis. He will score two or three lucky goals this season and chips may use their last R4million from the TKO to buy him(even though they are broke) then next season he will rot in the stands like Jose Cowrrealba.
