Mushekwi the hero for Downs

Posted: 17 December 2010 Time: 22:12

Nyasha Mushekwi helped Mamelodi Sundowns rack up another victory, overcoming stiff opposition from Ajax Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night to run out 1-0 victors.

The first 10 minutes saw Downs enjoying territorial advantage, but with little threat to the goal of Hans Vonk.

But Vonk could do nothing about Nyasha Mushekwi's header in the 61st minute, from a corner kick.

It was certainly Ajax who had the better of the early chances, as Terror Fanteni had a 10th minute blocked by Wayne Sandilands and then Thulani Hlatshwayo headed straight at the former Platinum Stars keeper.

A rash tackle by Fanteni on Mathew Booth after 30 minutes put the Cape side on the back foot as he was sent for an early shower.

But even though Downs began to play with more purpose, they never really came close to breaking the deadlock in the closing minutes of the first half.

The Cape Town team started the second half with purpose, both Thulani Serero and Sameehg Doutie having a couple of half chances.

Sandilands then kept the visitors in the lead, thanks to a superb save from close range after Khama Billiat had connected with Lebo Manyama’s cross.

Closing action was intriguing as Ajax continued to give their all in search of a goal, the 10 men running themselves into the ground.

Credit to the Urban warriors for a fine display with only ten men.
As for ama-Sandawana, we can only thank the players for the lovely festive at the summit...! phew! Sky's the limit!

Still dreamin' of catching us? Hehe dream on dreamers, this one is gone with half a season to spare....We're riding on Nitro's and Calibre's, bring on those 1400's and E-20's with whitewall tyres! tl tl tl! Whooowee! Downs'!

Ajax played well- this team is the only threat to sundowns winning the league.
As much as i don't like the defensive tactics the coached applied- I'm happy wit the 3 points. our players need to know how to pass the ball more accurately. 7 points clear for now- i wish it stays this way. for now i'll sleep in peace.

I think it's high time for Pitso to drop Domkat and give a deserving goal keeper(Sandi) a chance.
Sandilands kept Sunkop into the game for 90min.
Weldone my boy keep it up.
How I wish Habaz can field Booth on the 8th of jan so that Musona can remind him that he should hang up his boots.
Well done sunkop even though u didn't deserve to win.

I see Sandilands walking away wit yet another R50 000 bonus, i can only wish that i concentrated more on my soccer game.
Our xmas bonus as players will be seeing the team going to the break wit 30 points in the bag.
Xulu gives me confidence playing as a right back- the guy is adjusting well- now that's what i call a talented player. Watch him gets better in that position! damn I'm really proud of him.

It's very hard for you to take KC out of your dirty mouth.
Is this article about KC retard?
I thoght that you are a Chibuku fan.
Let me say this again Sunkop is going home empty handed this season.

Tk, we are Sundowns my outie and therefore cannot sugar coat an appalling display because it defeats the whole purpose of being Dawana.

Habas is no problem, he'll go on and win the league by a margin simply because he has sacrificed cups, our pride and style just to deliver on Motsipe's mandate...the league title.

It's bull crap if you ask me, We should be competing for everything on offer, we demand our brand of diski since we ca'nt win like Chiefs and be happy, mh! It's a disgrace for us phela! lol!

@tk, give Habbas a break. If u say we don't have a coach, who set up the winning first eleven. Who throw super subs on the field.

An obvious result of course. Where is Brett Evans? Too much yada yada doesnt help. Nt one of the best games but what is important is that 3 points in the bag. Milkshake in the 18 area halakasha. To all the haters next time if there'll be one.

To the sunflopers: The more u talk about Chiefs is the more u make it strong and famous. U were playing Ajax but now u r mentioning Chiefs as the team that is supposed 2 catch u on the log. Is Chiefs the only team in PSL or is it that u hate Chiefs so very much that whenever u play other teams u picture them as KC?

Listen clueless ppl; KC and OP already have Trophies in their cabinets 4 the current season. The league that u r already celebrating is still open that even MP Aces can still win it.
